Post Florida may restore voting rights to 1.7 million ex-felons

Activists have been circulating a statewide petition to create a ballot initiative in November 2018 that would restore the rights of those convicted of a felony to vote after they have completed their sentence. The campaign is on track for success, at least in getting the initiative on the ballot. With one month to go until the deadline, nearly 85 percent of the ballots necessary to succeed have been signed by Florida voters.

This could be a game-changer for 2020 and beyond.

A 2012 poll conducted by Christopher Uggen of the University of Minnesota found that four-fifths of Americans support restoring voting rights after a person has completed a sentence. Rasmussen Reports found similar numbers in 2014, with 65 percent of respondents agreeing that one should regain voting rights upon sentence completion.

Glad they are considering doing this.
CA will allow you to restore your voting rights once supervision is complete.

The Florida Legislature would never reinstate voting rights for ex felons, but putting the measure on the ballot outflanks them. We'll see what the voters and the courts have to say about it.

There are more ex felons in America than there were total US residents when I was born, but instead of causing a rebellion, it is now considered to be normal. The TV program Live Police even brags that someone is arrested every 2 1/2 seconds here in the land of the free. (or whatever the show is called, the one where all the officers have a better "weed" sense of smell than their drug dogs and claim it gives them probable cause to search the vehicles of everyone they encounter)
