I was at the recent judiciary committee meeting when Pat Caruso testified about the articles in the Detroit News about sexual abuse still occurring in the womens' prisons. Her testimony was appalling. She even tried to say, with a straight face, that the internal affairs department of the MDOC is an "objective investigative" body.

I plan on attending the upcoming judiciary committee meeting about the proposed changes to the preliminary exam rules. This is a very bad bill for a lot of reasons - and the idea that it will save money I think is ridiculous. To save money, Mike Cox might want to consider a bill requiring training county prosecutors not to over-charge and to be more amenable to reasonable plea negotiations - that would cut down on a number of unnecessary preliminary exams.
