Default My mom said it was not so bad

My mom is in her 50's and disabled. She went to prison for a first offense for 10 months and has said many times that it is not as bad as we all imagine it to be.
She took classes, learned to crochet, read a lot of books. She said in one way it was nice not to have all the stresses of everyday life. The only thing I heard heard her complain about was that she had to put up with noise and immature people...she said everyone treated her with respect. She said a lot of the people knew each other in there and treated it like it was a camp.
So, as much as we may all fear about prison. some people can adjust to it fairly easy.

I'm glad your Mom had such an easy time adjusting to prison. I finally determined that the biggest factor in being treated well by both inmates and staff, or the opposite, was my own actions. Usually, what you give is what you will receive too.

I agree with FBOP and the few staff and several inmates that didn't think that way were easy enough to avoid.

I've never been to prison but have done county time I actually didn't mind it I could read all day sleep I even liked the food. I had great bunkies, there were some scary peeps but I was able to avoid them very easily. I was initially so scared thinking the worst.

I guess it all depends on where you are. My two years were a living hell.

It depends on who you are as a person as well. If you are aggressive, arogant expect problems. If you are humble, positive and mind your own business expect less problems. I just came home and it was more tolerable then I expected. Can I ever do it again........ NO!

I have done more time than I care to remember since the age of 14 up until I was in my early ??? but for me, in the "old days" and being young yea it was fun, guess thats why I always went back. Things and times change and I had to grow up, youngsters came in with much more violent cases. I never had an issue that I couldn't myself. I always carried myself with respect and got it back. People would know when I was mad and the homegirls knew when to get me back to reality and not lose my date. I could sit on the yard alone and before I knew I would have all kinds of company. I guess it was all about how I carried myself, just the same way I do now. Only difference now is I am much older and just smh at the crazy ways of my life and the stupid things people do. I have always had a way that people knew not to get on that bad side of me. Even today people just don't know how I will react to things but when I give a calm response they walk away in confusion I don't have the time anymore to waste on the little things that cause my blood pressure to rise. Life is way to short. I cannot see myself going back to do time, it's just not in me anymore, leave it for the youngsters now. I completely changed my life, nowadays I worry about my family and my health. I retired from that life and recently from working due to my health.
