My boyfriend is currently in jail waiting for a bed to open at SAFP. I don't know when a bed will be available... we're in Texas and he's special needs (for his Bipolar Disorder).
How long is the wait time for a bed to be available?
I'm having a hard time coping with this. I feel so lonely and I'm so relieved to find you all here.
How do you cope?
I'm driving about 2.5 hours daily to see him for our 30 minute visit.
Help me out. This is my first time going through all of this. I've never had a boyfriend who is an inmate. This will be his first time going to SAFP as well. Any advice for the both of us will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hey!
Beds for SAFP in special needs units can be hard to come by. I've heard three months as an average waiting time, but I don't think you can ever really know.
I know it's tough. My boyfriend is currently in jail awaiting sentencing (we're hoping for SAFP) and I'm 4 hours away so I can't make it to those 30 minute visits. It sucks. But I have a friend who got out of the program a couple months ago (6 months in since he wasn't special needs) and he's doing pretty damn well now. He said it's one of those things were you get what you put in, and he really wanted to change. They kept him crazy busy and he said it was one of the toughest experiences he's ever been through.
Perks are contact visits...something you'd likely not get if he was in a regular TDC facility...and an actual out date!
