Tammy, alot depends on the prison Rodrick is at. The warden will sign off on "custody" of your honey, return it to the chaplain, and then you have to take that affidavit, along with a copy of his Prison ID, cert. Birth cert,. a drivers license or something like that as ID to the county probate court, they'll give you another form to fill out, fill it out there, if you can, and then they'll sell you the license. Make two photo copies, (at least) and send one to the chaplains office at the DOC in Atlanta, they'll approve/ deny and send it back to the chaplain at his prison. You'll need to call the prison chaplain for exact direction, but that's the honey of things,.. where is Rodrick at? Maybe I have more detailed info if he's at David's prison,.. Good luck!

Default Sumter County CI In Americus

Rodrick is at Sumter County CI In Americus. They are playing a game. His counselor gave him the paper and said to see the warden and then the warden (who just started) said "married? I don't know about that........see your counelor" and then Rodrick told him she told him to see the warden and the warden said to tell the counslor to see him so I don't know what is up. I am scared to call b/c I don't want to make waves. Plus we are an interracial couple and it is quite obvious they don't care for that in southwest GA. I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

i am in the process too. waiting for him to send the papers back them we have to send it for approval and set a date!
Most places you should call and ask to speak with the chaplin and he will help u out. And tell you who to give the papers to for them to approve it and he will set the date. Just call and ask to speak with the chaplin. In Ga u sometimes send the papers to atlanta for approval from the head chaplin Woodrow Hudson. If u have any q's pm me and i will help the best i can! Default weddings in GA

I have learned alot the past month. The inmate is supposed to contact the chaplain or counselor. They are given a form and the form is sent to Atlanta for approval. From there the wedding is cooridinated. Some places allow an outside minister, others have it done by the judge. If thet are in a county camp they do not have to go through Atlanta and it is just arranged through the bride and judge after the paper work is filled out.

Tammy, David & I are getting married on Christmas Eve, so I know how exciting and frustrating the whole process can be. Just be patient,..it can come together without alot of problems if you'll just breathe deeply, and be nice to the chaplain and everyone else you speak with. Good luck, and congratulations!

C-eve. That is nice! I didn't think they would even do that! Our date is set for Dec.19th. There is no chaplian there so I am dealing witht he warden and counselors who know NOTHING. It is very frustrating. Since he is in a county facility it has been different too and they haven't really known what to do or say. Congrats! PM me and tell me more about yourself! It is nice to meet someone in a similar situation and who doesn't think I Am crazy. Did you already know him prior to his incarceration? How long does he have? Rodrick and I were together 2 years before this and he has a review this month and is up for parole in Sept.

Default Getting Married In Georgia

this is a project in the works... please be patient

As of right now we have no wedding info for this state, but if you have been married in a Georgia prison and would like to share with everyone then please post. Here is a list of questions and if you can add anything else then please do so.

1. Did you have any counsling
2. How long did the whole process take
3. Did you have to find your own minister
4. Were you allowed any flowers or disposable camera
5. How many guests were allowed to be there
6. What was the process to get the marriage license
7. What were the costs you had to pay
8. What were the two of you allowed to wear
9. Were you allowed to bring a wedding band in for him or did it have to be mailed and what was the value limit

This is the result of 2 threads being merged... if you have more Georgia information, please be sure to share it!

Post Georgia wedding info

This is off the paper my fiance sent me that he got from the chaplin.

Following are guidelines for marriage:

1. The inmate contacts the chaplin for marriage info and procedures.
Diagnostic inmates are encouraged to wait untill they are permanently assigned to begin procedures.

2. The inmate can marry an person who is not currently incarcerated.

3. The inmate and intended spouse will assume all logistical and financial
responsiblities for the marriage.

4. The inmate will write the institutional chaplin and state his intention to
marry. The letter should include the following:

a.) Name, address and phone number of the intended spouse
b.) Name, address and phone number of the minister or Justice of the
Peace.
c.) Approximate desired date of marriage.

5. If inmate and intended spouse have never been married, then each person will submit a notarized letter stating that there are no legal restrictions, such as an unresolved previous marriage, common law or otherwise, that would prohibit the marriage.

6. If the inmate or intended spouse has been married, then a copy of the
divorce decree will be submitted.

7. The intended spouse will obtain a marriage application form, complete
the form and send it to the inmate for completion of his portion of the
form, including a notarized signature.

a.) In Georgia, a marriage license can be obtained as long as the parties
are residents of Georgia.
b.) If a county refuses to issue a marriage license, then seek out another
county. One of the counties that will issue a marriage license if one
intended spouse is in prison, is Fulton County, Atlanta, Georgia.

8. The inmate will contact the chaplin who will make copies of the completed
marriage application. One copy will be place in the inmate's institutional
file and one copy will be placed in the inmate's Central Office record.

9. The inmate will have the responsibility of returning the original application
form by mail to his intended spouse.

10. The intended spouse will send a copy of the marriage license to the
Director of Chaplaincy Services who will send a letter of authorization
and a copy of the marriage license to the Warden to forward to the
institutional chaplin. The intended spouse will bring the original marriage
license to the institution on the day of the marriage ceremony.

11. The chaplin will arrange date, time and coordinate marriage ceremony
with an approved minister or justice of the peace.

12. Marriage Ceremony:

a.) The Warden will designate a date, time and area in the institution
to be utilized for the marriage ceremony.
b.) With prior approval, no more than four (4) members of the immediate
families (2 from each family) may attend the ceremony. Other inmates
will be restricted from the marriage ceremony.
c.) The inmate will wear institutional clothing only. Wedding gowns,
special decorations, flowers and music will be prohibited.
d.) With prior approval and within institutional personal property SOP
limitations, wedding rings will be allowed to be brought in by the
intended spouse. It will be the responsiblitiy of the chaplin to notify
the record room concerning the ring being placed on the inmate's
personal property list.
e.) The institutional chaplin or approved authorized person performing
the marriage ceremony will complete and return the marriage license
to the proper authorities. A copy of the marriage license (blue copy)
for the inmate's spouse will be placed in the inmate's file and a copy
forwarded to the Director of Chaplaincy Services.

whew that was a lot of typing! (hope there wasn't too many typos! ) I don't think I've seen anything like this in here for GA, so I thought I'd post it in hopes that it might help someone out there. God bless and good luck!

You said that the county will issue a marriage license if both parties are residents of Georgia. What if he is and Im not? Does anyone know how that works? Also, how would he get a divorce decree from prison?

I'm trying to get a head start on the ga prison marriage process. My sweetie has signed the paper stating there are no legal retsrictions prohibiting him from getting married now we are in limbo. I don't know what else to do.

Try doing a search on weddings at the facility your loved one is at. That will more than like pull up some sort of info.

So just go to the forum your loved one's prison is in, then click on search this forum (toward the top) and type in the name of the prison and weddings or marriage and the click ok or press enter and wait for your results.
If I'm not making sense to you or you just need more help post or PM me the info and I will try for you.

Hope that helps.

What I meant was to do a search here on PTO. And calling is a good idea that way you get the info first hand.

If you would like me to help you look post the name and state of the prison and I'll see what I can find for you.
