Default The Cut

Hey Ladies,

In the Baltimore Sun dated Sunday, March 18th there is an article about the closing of "THE CUT". 97 of the state's most disruptive inmates were transferred to federal prisons across the country and 37 were sent to state facilities in Kentucky and Virginia. The transfers were carried out in secrecy within the past two weeks. While I understand the need to close the facility, what happens to those person who already had a problem getting to see their loved ones? Cumberland is a lot further than Jessup if you live in Baltimore City. Have any of your loved ones been affected by the move. Fortunate for me my husband is in Hagerstown, but this could have happened to any of us.

It must suck for families trying to visit...but I actually have to give props to O'Malley or whomever made it happen! There were far to many injuries and deaths on both staff and prisoner levels! Hopefully they continue to fix the problems!

My loved on is in feds...so I feel for the journey those families who loved ones were sent to federal facilities will now have to make if wanting to visit. It's an east to west coast thing, not just state lines.

Ditto on the closing the Cut. It's about time. But I too wonder how the families will visit, which is so important to the inmates' morale. I noticed that in the articles that not one thing was mentioned that this was also for the safety of inmates who do NOT cause all this trouble...just for the COs. Now I understand the State needs to protect their employees, but do they not have an obligation to protect those they are hired to guard as well?

Actually...something was mentioned in the above link:

I am wondering what they are going to do with the building. The hospital and all that are still there and still operating. Rather than totally close it, I think they should renovate it and make it equipped to accomodate handicapped and geriatric prisoners, many doing life sentences.

I also heard them talking about this on 96.3 this morining. My questions is about the inmates that were Medium 1 to Minimum that are currently housed at WCI and Northbranch (the facilities that will now be Maximum) what happens to them?
