Default Hurricane Sandy CV check in

Hurricane Sandy CV check in
Looks like Sandy will be the storm of the century.
It caused 12 flooding in south Florida. And all up the coast
Georgia, North and South Carolina, Virginia New York. Delaware
Maryland , New Jersey , Pennsylvania, Connecticut , Rhode Island , New Hampshire , Massachusetts , and Maine , Michigan , Wisconsin and Illinois will all feel it wrath.
This doesn't include the damage that will be in Canada along the. St Laurence. Sea way 4500 miles
New Found-land ,Nova scotia ,Prince Edward Island , New Brunswick. Ontario , Quebec Roughly 100 million people will be impacted.
If that is not bad enough. There was a earth quake in Canada and they were warning of a Tsunami. But have cancelled that. Wish they could cancel Sandy

This was a good idea Dona to start this thread. Ofcourse I woke up early even though I don't have to go to work. Right now it's just raining hard here in the suburbs of Philly. They said "Sandy" is only 280 miles away from the Jersey shore. I hate this crap!! Especially being alone. All my family's prepared. My step sister got food and other things for my 85 yr old mother who lives alone. I have a feeling I'll be indoors for a couple of days. Thank god I have a neighbor downstairs who I am friends with that I can hang with if I start to go crazy AND if I lose power.
Will keep in touch. Stay safe everyone on the easy coast!!

For all that are effected by the storm I just heard a very good idea from the local news. Just in case anyone loses power, crank up the temp in your fridge and freezer so then your food will be at its coldest!! This is a slow moving AND historic storm they just said as I'm typing this.

I'm pretty far inland, but we've started getting rain and wind gusts of up to 30 mile an hour... Thanks so much, Sandy

Driving in to work the radio station I listen to was talking about the devastation Sandy will cause. My thoughts are with everyone on the east coast and those incarcerated over there too.

I knew it was too good to be true. Lost power 25 minutes ago. This sucks!!! All I can hear is the heavy winds. They say power can be out for days in certain areas. I'm hoping I'm not one of them. Going to bed. Will check in tomorrow.

Just an update here on Philly

Just an update
Power still out and no hot water. Thanks to my sister who only lives 15 minutes from me, I was able to take a hot shower & charge my phone. PECO is saying over 800,000 lost power & over 500,000 still without power. They said they will have an update at 4pm as to when they "estimate" when the power will be restored. Before I lost power last night PECO reported 52,000 without power. Thinking positive that my power comes back on before work tomorrow.

Well, I just wanted to sent a quick update that.....I HAVE POWER!!!! I'm so excited. It went on about 20 minutes ago. Thought it would be out longer. I'm mentally and physically exhausted so I'm off to bed.

I live in Connecticut but luckily in the Northeastern part. Luckily my husband was in a prison that was out of harm's way, my daughter was actually in the hospital during Sandy but she was out of harms way but because both of them were gone, it was difficult. Fortunately, or unforunately, we are hurricane veterans, having gone through the aftereffects of Katrina, Rita, and Wilma in Louisiana and then Irene and now Sandy up here. We lost power at the house for about four hours, we had minor tree damage in the area so we got off really lucky. The coast was not so lucky....

Just FYI for the members, I'm going to be a Red Cross Volunteer very soon and I'm working on my Master's Degree in Emergency Management so if anyone needs advice in preparing for a natural disaster, please let me know and I can point you in the right direction. The Red Cross has some really good checklist especially for people with special needs family members.
