Default The Blue Light Vigil for Inmates

I am going to keep a vigil light in my window..a small electric candle that will stay lit day and night throughout the holiday season to remind me to hold in my heart and prayers those who are incarcerated. I am using a blue bulb, because blue is steadfast and calming...true blue! Tell your children that they are not forgotten, and join me in making the world aware!

Please join the blue light vigil!

Great idea! That might just be my only decoration this year- not much in the mood for anything else.

Ok... now I can admit that I went a little over board... but hey they come in packages of two...and the blue bulbs come in packages of 4!

We won't talk about the real Christmas tree I bought on the way out the door. But my other little tree looked so sad and depressing...and sad and depressing have to leave my house IMMEDIATELY!

I live in such a small town, one hour away from a half way big town...No blue lights to be found here. I will dig out some Christmas lights after all...

That is a GREAT idea.....I wish everyone would just understand how hard it is on the families of prisoners...especially this time of year.

Wickit...I was having a real problem with the tree too... I even bought a real one the other day...and it sat there...naked. What I ended up doing...(and I haven't bought new decorations in years) I bought blue lights, blue and silver ornaments, a big beautiful lighted bow and that will be the "theme" every year until my son comes home...I have added the older special ornaments to it...the ones the kids are so attached too...but gave my daughter the rest of the older decorations.

I will be sending my son pictures of HIS tree this week.

Default blue light

I'll be heading to the store very soon to get my blue light. I bought a fake 'Charlie Brown' Christmas tree this year and just changed the one lonely ornament from red to a blue one. I even have my son's blue baby blanket surrounding the base. Thanks for the idea! Blessings to all.

..love the idea of putting your son's baby blanket around the base of the tree! My son had a baby blanket too, they both did, but all that is left is a tiny section. They do not know I still have it. lol

Thumbs up

My parents live in a similar spot. It's an hour and a half to find the "local" convenience store or gas station. They do a "Charlie Brown " Christmas and rip off a dead branch somewhere and put it in a plant pot with earth to hold it steady. Then decorate it with "northern thing" like Malamute that pull sleighs and other home made things. Only takes one line of lights :-). She doesn't believe blue means Christmas, but that's probably because she doesn't like blue. This year there will be blue though.

I hope you send a picture of your daughters tree too. I still love all the decorations my mom has. Also, when my Grandma passed, I got all of her decoration. My great grandparents too.

We had a flood in the bathroom and it flooded the crawl space where the decorations were, so that put an end to my tree. I buy one every year and my mom gives me the Hallmark Daughter decoration! But decorations are so expensive.

My grandmother had one that I love the most it's smaller than your finger, he's a little man that has cigarettes. Once you light the cigarette, he starts puffing. He's a hundred years old.

I found a blue topiary tree at a little outlet store I stopped at as I drove home from visiting my son at Coweta County prison. It's covered in blue lights and very modern looking. The woman gave me a deal because they'd had it a while. I put it on my porch and snipped the red ribbon off my old wreath and replaced it with a blue. Looks good, if I say so myself. The baby blanket idea made me cry (not hard to do these days). I wish all of you mothers and fathers a Merry Christmas and send my sincere wishes for a better year in 2015.
