Susanville = Fire Camp for Sure?

My boyfriend is going to Susanville! He's really hoping to get into Fire Camp. Is there any other reason they would send him there besides to go to fire camp? I'm hoping that they aren't just dangling the carrot! Is there anyone out there whose LO was sent to Susanville only to learn that they did not qualify for camp? I know afraid of what I might learn, but I really want to be realistic.

An Interesting question. I almost hate that I have to answer.

Yes, last fall he went to Susanville. He went with enthusiasm, that alone worried me, because his felony was violence based. He's strong, in his 30's, motivated and a fast study at most anything he applies himself to. The placement counselor at wasco said, "sure they'll use you". Increased fire risk with drought and all he'd be a shoe-in

In weeks he moved to Susanville to a new counselor who said " Who the heck sent you here. We can't justify sending you anywhere outside of CCC except to another facility, not a camp. And that won't be for a year And while we're at it, your points look a bit off here, you need tighter housing." ( I can't think of what they call it when they tally up your risk for where and how they house, like dorm or not and level of yard/observation etc)( I'm fairly naive about prison).

He was very unhappy and wanted out of there so he wasn't reminded daily of what he couldn't do. probably like getting to the gate of summer camp then told you can't go in.. shrugs. It has not turned out well since.

My boyfriend just wrote. No fire camp Say he might be reevaluated in November. His charge is assault with GBI for anyone who is comparing experiences.

Hi . So my boyfriend made it to fire camp and was there for a month r so and he got in trouble so they sent him back to susanville but it's been like 3 weeks now since he's been back at susanville and I haven't heard from him I got one letter from him right when he got there and that's it so I'm just wondering if anyone else has had problems with the mail taking for ever .. r does anyone know what else it could be why he wouldn't be able to write..

I guess it depends on how much trouble he got into.
Maybe his *supplies* of stuff didnt get back to him yet?
Can you visit?
I guess that would be what I'd do. Try to visit.
Then ask him directly.
