Hi dannysmom,
Do you know where in Hagerstown he is going? My ex B/F was just transferred to MTC in Baltimore from MCI-J in Jessup. I got a letter today saying he felt much safer in Jessup since it's a medium, than MTC which is a minimum security. MTC use to be the old Maryland Pen. It's the oldest prison still in use in the country and to quote him "it's dirty and it's dangerous". He said due to overcrowding there are no jobs and no programs. Don't know if I believe that though. He had been working in the print shop at MCI-J. He was at Roxbury last time, and 2 other ones before I met him. I feel that the prisons up in Hagerstown are not as bad as the ones over towards Baltimore, but I might be wrong. If Danny goes to MCI-H they have a graphics shop there. If he can get a job he will get some experience that he can use on the outside. How long is his sentence? I know you must be worried sick, I know how my ex's mom worries about him. Take Care.

hey everyone from maryland. well I am wondering the same thing about which facilities are better than others. my husband was sentenced to 8 years just this last friday. He is currently in anne arundel county jail, they say they will transfer him to a place in Baltimore for intake, and there he will find out where he is going. I am very worried. i have four children (all 5 and under) and i would like to be able to visit him, but i heard the visitation at all the facilities restricts the number of children to only 3. Does anyone have any more info on the whole process of being transferred to DOC, which ones are better than others, and about visition?

Depending on where he is going, some even have more restrictions, a limit of 3 visitors, which means the only way you can bring a third child is if the child is under a year old and can be held on your lap.
You may be able to get permission from the Warden from the Facility to be able to bring all your children for visits. I have heard of this being done.
Some of the facilities would be better than others, however since you have small children, you guys may opt to go somewhere closer to your residence because traveling 2 - 3 hours one way would be a real hardship in itself. Do you know if they have specified what security level your husband would be, that would make it easier for me to maybe suggest a facility.

Click on the link above it will tell you all about visiting. He will first go to MRDCC in Baltimore, if I remember right he wont be allowed visits for a while.
My ex was just transferred from MCI-J. He thought that was one of the better and safer ones he has been in. Unfortunatly he's been in alot of them. Good luck to you.

Thumbs up BALTIMORE COUNTY Md. Here!!

I have 2 sons in prison...........One just got transferred from ECI down from Eastern shore to Patuxent ..He said it has it's good points and bad and like he said.....Food is Good.....but they cannot go outside all winter?? so far he said he just does not bother anyone and they do not bother him....Has nice cell mate......Can have TV's etc. but thank God they are changing to Prison State uniforms there.at the start of 2007..
Those clothes were getting expensive..He just came here at the start of March/06..Only like 40 mintues away....
I have another son in South Carolina that is getting transferrd to Baltimore. But it is going to cost me like close to $1,000.00 just to pay the salaries of 2 guards and all there food hotel etc............That is just too much.........I said I believe flying is cheaper..They could go back same day. Anyway.........i hope I am putting this in the right spot to be on the Board with other people who have loved ones in all prison .......But, interested in talking to people from Baltimore, Md......by the way
Does anyone know how I can get a list of Medium prisons in Maryland????? That is where my son will be going..here in Md.
Thanks for listening........... "Phyllis" NanaMom
