Question Does anyone know anything about Gates?

My boyfriend got transferred to Gates this morning and I'm wondering if anyone has any info about it. I live one town over and I had no idea it even existed!! I've heard rumors that it isn't too bad and is similar to Bergin (dormitory style, etc.) Any information would be greatly appreciated

My BF was in Gates last year. He did complain when he was in a domitory type block because the building was old. Then he got moved to a block where he had one cell mate. The CO's weren't too bad to me in there either. My BF didn't like them because they flirted a lot. The visits get packed so I would suggest to get there early. It is cool that it is close you can visit him often. This time will go by quickly.

Thank you! Yeah I was looking at pictures of Gates online and it looks really old dark and gloomy...definitely not somewhere I would want to be! It looks like there are some activities thought and a library so hopefully there is something to do there to pass the time... Thanks for the heads up on the visits....is it crowded during the week?

I am in Norwich too and would go several times a week. The weekends were busier, Sat/Sun. Friday's surprsingly weren't too bad. I heard they added more visiting times. When my man was there, they didn't have visits on Tuesdays but now they do in the evenings. It might not be so bad now.

Also as of 5/2008 no more handholding during the visits they have actually installed black metal barriers on the tables. I was visiting prior to this new policy at the end of 2007 beginning of 2008 when there were no barriers and hand holding was allowed.
