Made a sorta Tamale pie last night.
Came out pretty good but different than others Ive made.
When I make it again, Im going to add warmer green chilies. (I had mild on hand) and I will DEF make a cornbread type topping.
This recipe had me use corn meal made on the stove with cold water and butter.
It came out sort like a sauce rather than a bread. (maybe like polenta?)
Anyway......next time I'll have all the ingredients I need to make it. (maybe even have some sour cream on hand too)

I haven't been cooking at all!!! I was in sort of a slump, bored and sick of the same stuff. But my friend who came to visit brought me some great stuff chinese barbecue sauce mix. I'm quite excited about this and she brought a few other things I can't get here!! It's crazy I hadn't seen her in 35 years and its was if I saw her yesterday!!! The worst part was we still act like we are in our 20's and we aren't it's taken me days to recover from her visit!!!LMAO We really had so much fun we really didn't do anything as far as going out we went to a few dives. Mainly we just hung out and drank!! She's very pretty and every guy in my apartment complex was stopping by!!!LOL I had my landlord tell me I had to stop having my alcohol parties everynight!!! We were quiet just some jealous idiots live here. I was glad that I had people wanting to hang out as I'm not exactly a social butterfly!! I had to much fun and now I really miss her.

Good for you!
I love seeing one of my cousins. We wont see eachother for yrs and yrs.
When we gtg we can have such fun. One time we spent about a hr and a half in a drug store laughing at all the funny cards. We practically pee ourselves.
We once found these little toys around halloween time. It was one of those things with strings thru all the parts and you push a *button* under the toy and it makes the toy bend. We were laughing so hard after making the toys wave, fall down, bow, wave etc. I still have mine.

And I called my dish from last night (that the leftovers never got put away)
Magma. lol. It looked a bit like it all bubbly and oozing all over the top of the cornbread mixture on the top. (plus it was super hot!)
So no leftover magma for dinner tonight. Gotta toss out the remainder of it as it sat out all night. (plus side.....Ricky didnt steal any off the counter)

Been a while I've been doing stuff around the house, got a new dining room table!!! Now I can invite people over and we can sit like humans!!! I'm making lasagna today I needed to clear out my freezer and I had a ton of cheese frozen. It's been so hot I don't even want to cook. I imagine my electric bill is going to be insane this month. I have like 5 huge tomato plants and corn plants!!! My strawberry plants aren't doing anything much tiny strawberries and sour.

I never did put in any veggies.
I prolly still could get some tomato starts.

The last two yrs were pretty sparse as to any yield.

No idea what to make tonight. Hub bought salmon which I made last night.
Im not a huge salmon fan, but the stuff Costco's butter sauce makes it taste pretty good. I also made some brown rice, and cooked the last HUGE sweet potato.
still have some of that left over.

Guess its back to chicken for tonight.

Well the lasagna turned out really great!!! Surprised me as I get bored making it as I am not a cheese fan!!! My friends son just got out of jail had been in a county jail for 11 months, he was on that like he'd never eaten before!!! Now he wants to learn how to make it, as he said no one else is gonna keep cooking for me!!! I told him just let me know and we can make one together so he can learn. Today I'm going shopping with my neighbor, she is 72 and has no one to hang with and we both like shopping at this one store, so that's what I'm doing today. I have some left overs to eat if I come home hungry!!!

Ah, last night was steak and barbecued chicken on the grill and spinach salad, with hand-made ice cream afterward. With peonies covering the center of the table.

I was given a bunch of fresh zucchini so I have been baking Zucchini Bread, it freezes great and is more like a cake. I have about 15 loaves to give away!!! I actually love the stuff. I just have no more room to store it getting a deep freezer this week but right now I'm up to my eye balls in baked goods!!! I am freezing some then mailing to my sister in NY. She loves it but has no clue it has a vegetable in it!!!LOL

I love zucchini. and LOVE zucchini bread too. Did you add nuts? (boy bread or girl bread? lol)

But even more than the bread, I love grilled zucchini. ssssooooooooo good.
Hoping someone planted too much of it in their yards and brings some into work.
Either that or I gotta go buy some. lol.

Not sure what to do for dinner tonight. Hubs going to be working late, and it will be just me and my son for dinner.

Last night was yummy. I cooked the rest of the steaks hub bought. De frosted them, and on the bbq. Just some salt/pepper and a bit of garlic powder.
Salad, and corn on the cob (also on bbq) so clean up was pretty quick.

Since my son is now working a new job (that he loves!) he's coming home pretty hungry. Before when he was a server or bartender he'd eat their food. Most of it not that healthy. He's looking great now. Lost a bunch of weight and is back down to more normal. (in fact I told him he's looking thin.......He says, first Im too fat, now Im too skinny......I can never please you lol. I told him I never said you were fat. I said you were heavy for your build.....but he's ALOT happier now)
So I gotta think of something yummy for him, and me and healthy too.
time to go get some more veg.

Maybe chicken salad?

I have not. I think the only *bread* Ive ever baked is zucc or banana.
Im too lazy to bake. I know hub would love it if I did, because his mom used to bake all the time. (omg, her cookies........)

One time a long long time ago, I tried to make these sticky bun things.
lol.
They would have made good rocks if I could have gotten them off the pan.

Not sure what went wrong there, either too hot of an oven, or not enough something on the pan.

Never again. lol.

I baked a cinnamon sugar swirl bread years ago but didn't save the recipe. Others I've come across haven't been quite the same.

I'm cooking early today. The heat index is already approaching 102° and I'm still in my comfort food phase. Tonight's dinner will be cornbread and stewed chicken (a childhood fave that I loved when my grandmother prepared it )

Yeah.... I have some potatoes boiling right now - but it's going to be with leftover chicken. I think I've been eating chicken for a whole week now... hope it's still good

Im thinking chicken again. Ug.
But Im going to go buy some store made macaroni salad.
I got some about a week ago at our grocery store around the corner. (it the expensive one but they have some awesome deli foods and its very close to us so.....)
anyway, it was a spicy mac salad. I thought I'd try it and oh boy, its GOOD.
Gonna have to buy some and figure out what they used to make it and try making it at home sometime.

I had chocolate cake all day. I've got a sweet tooth and the old man had his 91st birthday a couple of days ago.
