I wrote the Warden and Chaplin a letter asking for permission and what it would mean to us and why it would help him when he came home. Waiting for a response. Will update as things progress.

if he is lucky enough to be in a state that allows proxy weddings, you do it that way. Otherwise, you have a prison wedding in the prison.

The alternative to that is to wait until he gets out and have a wedding the way you want it.

I think it changes from state to state. We got married in NV and I needed a form from the chaplain - proof that he was in inmate - and proof of his identity - I had his birth certificate, SS number etc - I just took everything and the process took 10 minutes and I had the licence. If you contact the Courthouse of the city he's in they should tell you what to do.

If we know what state (or federal) location you're wanting to marry in we can be more specific. Are you looking at marrying at a state facility in Kentucky?

Has anyone gotten married at Vandalia Correctional Center? Or know of anyone who has? How much does it cost? How long did it take to get things arranged? My boyfriend of 7years n I are thinking about getting married before he comes home. Need answers asap.

Thanks Angela! The Chaplin is not a very nice guy but I just kept saying sorry I got taking up his time and that my fiance had requested the packet and had not got it yet. Asked if it took a while he said no just 1 or 2 days and wow he got it next day. They really try to make you give up but don't! Anyway now no one will help us figure out what some of this info they want is so we will figure it out and I will update again.

Oddly enough, prisons are reluctant to allow batterers to marry their victims while they are still serving time on the DV charges.

It was NEVER like that. That's not even the reason why he's in there. He called today and we decided to wait and do it right. He said that after 7 years whats a while longer. Also said there is a guy in there that got the no contact order lifted or modified so at least we know it is possible to get it done.

It doesn't really matter what you think it's like. The NCO is part of his parole and has to be followed. If you don't... He will go back to prison. Also, guys in there LIE...or the guy who got his modified did everything he was supposed... And so did his wife/girlfriend. You need to come to terms with the fact that unless both of y'all go through DV classes and counseling, you are not going to get anything done with that order. So, instead of being worried about getting married... Put in the work that needs to be done if you want that to happen...

He's only been in there for 4 mo. This is the 1st time he's been to doc. I've known him for 8 yrs. Been together for 7 of those 8 years n has been by my side. So it's not just jail/prison talk. Been there done that! LOL.

That isn't going to change the no contact order.

Some states have what is called an absentee affidavit where you can send it to him to be signed with a notary present. He then sends that to you with a copy of his prison ID, and you take that to pick up the license.

From her posts, it looks like they're in Illinois.
