Default MWI is out of prison & in Halfway House

My husband and I are MWI. We met about 10 years ago. I used to be pretty active in this forum when we first started out but lately Iíve been mainly in the federal forum.

I know we all wonder and dream about the day our MWI comes home. Yesterday was that day for us. I picked my husband up last night. We got an hour together and then I had to drop him off at the halfway house. We spent three hours on the phone this morning and it felt so freaking good.

He has a meeting with his case manager today and weíre hoping to find out when he can actually come home to me.

I thought this day would never come but then one day it does. It feels soooo surreal. Because of the face masks I was afraid we werenít gonna recognize each other but of course I was just being silly.

I know itís nice to hear MWI stories after release so Iíll update you more on our progress later.

So my husband’s spent eight days at the halfway house and while the first few days were rough, we’ve found our footing and thinks are back to normal. When he was released, we were ready with everything like bank account, health insurance and all that but the halfway house really doesn’t care whether you have it or not, you still have to go through their phases. So now we’re trying to keep an attitude of “it happens when it happens”.

One of the hardest things is not being allowed to visit due to COVID, like barely to even drop things off. And the fact that he had to turn down a decent job with benefits because the halfway house don’t allow him to have a car until phase 2, which doesn’t happen until at least the 2nd month there.

We talked to his PO though and she’s really good. Got our home approved for him so we’re still hopefully he’ll be allowed to come home in August.

I got to take him to the DMV for his driver license and afterwards we went to Chili’s for some burgers. It was sooooo nice sitting there with him, eating and talking without anyone looking over our shoulders. Think we both needed that.

Halfway houses are rough, especially now during COVID. It’s like he’s still in prison except we can talk as much as we want.
