Smile Sending a painting?

I was just wondering, has anyone ever sent a painting in the mail? Is it allowed in a federal prison?

I wanted to send a little painting, it's only 5x8 inches, maybe smaller

Have had one sent out but never sent one in. I dont think it would be allowed they would think the paint was drugs or something. A pencil drawing would go through.

You could send a photo of the painting too.

That's good I hope that happens. I emailed the prison and they said it would be returned, but maybe they're just saying that

I write to a few penpals at various prisons, and just getting photos in has been a problem.

If they have told you it would be returned, then the chances of them letting it slip by would be slim. My experience has been that they will reject a letter for any reason they can, and they will make up new rules for that purpose.

Worse, letters that they decide to not pass through often are simply "lost" instead of returned.

So if that painting is something that you would be upset about if it was never seen again then I would not risk sending it to an inmate.

I've never had photos returned, or any problems in that aspect

But I think a painting is probably pushing it. I think they should return declined mail though! That annoys me a little.

Usually depends on the prison security level. At low security, you can send paperback books so they should allow drawings/paintings. At medium, you can only send cards, letters and pictures. Whether they accept a drawing/painting or not will probably be up to the rules of the specific prison your LO is at or even the person working the mailroom at the time the mail comes through. I'd send it and see what happens...
