Default Thinking about taking a semester off...

Hello all -

I'm currently finishing up my second year of college - with 3 left to go in my accounting program. I'm tired of all of the pointless Gen Ed classes I've had to take, but next semester (fall) I will finally start taking some business classes.

Recently I have been just tired of being here and have thought about taking some time off (probably just a semester) to work more and save up some money because I don't have any right now and I'm getting a little overwhelmed.
My only fear is that I won't have the ambition to return in the Spring.

My question is - has anyone taken only a semester off and gone back right away after? I know that I would go back eventually, I just don't want to be gone and out of the swing of things for too long.

I feel stuck. Maybe the break over the summer will clear my head. Who knows.
I may not know what you're going through
But time is the space between me and you
There is a light through that window
Hold on say yes, while people say no

I know this a late reply but I've taken semesters off and went right back. If you have student loans then make sure you contact whomever holds your student loan and apply for a deferment, otherwise, the loans become payable approx 6 months after you stop registering for classes.

If you're tired of the General Ed classes, you may want to look into your school's policy on CLEP exams. Most university will allow you to exempt a certain amount of classes by making at least a 50-60 on certain CLEP exams. CLEP is a great way to get through those intro classes that everyone has to to take.

I went to college for accounting and now I am a Supervising Senior at a public accounting firm in Atlanta. If you are going to take time off I recommend that you also look for some type of bookkeeping, tax prep job in the mean time. Having the experience in the field will really help you. I still have a few more general business classes before my degree is officially completed but because I have so much accounting experience I've been able to be promoted with no issue.

Good luck to you!
