There's a post in the main federal forum about FCI Gilmer and the swine flu.

At this point it is only precautinary email are getting out and phone call too but they are requested to stay in units. Any one with flu symptoms must remain in cell. This may go on for as long as 10 days.

I am so glad that you posted this question. I have been so upset at my boyfriend. He hadn't wrote and only tried to call once when I was working, and I didn't know what was up. I am so sorry your visit was cancelled. I am going up next weekend and will be devasted if they are cancelled. If you hear anything else about this situation would you please let me know. Thanks!!!

Iam so sorry. Your note made me cry. I posted as soon as I heard of the lockdown.. That is my great fear to travel 10 hrs and not be able to see my grandson. How very sad.

Thanks for this post. Its not like my boyfriend to call or at least email daily. I called and they are still on lock down. Of course, they were unable to release any additional information. I will keep you posted if I hear anything else. Im in FL and plan to travel in for a visit next weekend.

Well as of today Gilmer-FCI is still locked down!!!! It is very sad to think that a person drives so far to find out the visiting is cancelled!!!! I live 3 and 1/2 hours away from Gilmer, and I could not imagin traveling 12 hours to not being able to visit. I will try to keep everyone updated on the lock down, but if anyone else finds out anything please let me know. Thanks

Gilmer has only been locked down 5 times in 30 months all for a very short time. There is very little trouble there. So don't worry . It will be over soon. For being a medium is is more like a low. Keep calling and letting them know families are worried .

I am glad that Gilmer FCI is my boyfriends last stop before he comes home next September. I am counting the days, and they can't come soon enough. It has been very hard this last year since we went away, and I haven't been able to see him two months. Hopefully I will get to go see him before the snow hits. Thanks again for the information!!!!

if you hear anything about visits this weekend please let me know, I was planning on visiting this coming weekend also. I only have 5 and a half hours to drive, but I would still hate to show up and it be canceled. With the phones being busy, I am assuming that if I don't hear from my bf that they are still on lockdown. Thanks.

Lockdown Continues

Thanks for this info. I went online and found this; saved it to my favorites so I can reference it in the future. I am praying that the lockdown is lifted soon. I am planning to drive in from FL to see him this weekend. Luckily I havent booked my hotel yet. Let's all just pray that our loves ones are safe and we hear from them within the next couple days.

Good Morning Ladies...just a quick check in to let you all know that they are off lockdown! I've already talked to my husband twice this morning. He said that they are still in the units, but at least they're out of their cells. He said that he thinks they'll probably open the compound up this afternoon, or tonight. He was just happy to get out, get some space, and a shower!!! If you haven't heard from your guys yet, you all should be soon!!!

Got 3 emails all ready. 5 days of cereal and bologna sandwiches. That sucks. Glad they are all right and safe. I got an answer from the email I sent to Gilmer . Not sure who it went to but it went to administration . That was a surprize. So nice to know they care enough to answer a worried mother. Have to give them credit for taking the time to answer. Wish I had thought of it earlier. We can all relax now. Don't forget to send a little extra money for the added things on the holiday commissery list.

Thank you very much! I just heard from my boyfriend and it bought me to tears. He confirmed that there was a major gang brawls in several of the units, but things should be back to normal within the facility tomorrow. God is Awesome!! I can now finalize my plans to see him this weekend.

Thanks again for the updates ladies. Sometimes all we have is eachother
