My friends husband has to self surrender next Thursday to Bastrop (not sure if he'll be in the low, or the camp) - I hope all goes well, it is very comforting to hear that it is a very low-drama facility It will be home for 2 years, so she'll be happy to hear she doesn't need to worry about what is going on with him while she's 1200 miles away!

I am thinking about visiting a friend in Bastrop between Christmas and New Years. I want to go to First Night in Austin. Can anyone recommend a clean safe but inexpensive hotel? Also, does anyone know if it is possible to visit the facility by cab? Do they have a locker area to put one's purse before visiting? Or will I be forced to rent a car. Thanks!

I am sorry for your difficult situation. My husband (and father of our three small kids) will be self-surrendering at Bastrop Low in two days, so I know how you feel. I am not sure what you're talking about regarding packages. My understanding is that you can not send any packages to prisoners at federal facilities. Only letters or books that are sent directly from the seller.

Visitation forms for family should be processed pretty quickly assuming that your relationship is documented in his PSI. Certain facilities, and I'm unsure about Bastrop, actually will automatically add immediate family that is documented in the PSI.

Hi and welcome to PTO!

I'm sorry to hear about your son.

In the federal system I've not heard of any packages that can be sent to the inmates. Books and calendars may be sent from the publisher or Barnes & Noble or amazon.com. For commissary they have a list they can choose items off of once a week, but they need the money in their commissary account to do that. They turn in the order on a certain day and then they pick it up on a certain day. There's a variety of things they can purchase in the commissary.

For visitation he has to send you a form that you complete and then send back. The BOP will then do background checks on the person and complete the approval process, this takes about 2 weeks. It's usually also about 2 weeks for his phone list to be approved before he can start making calls.

PTO has a forum for parents, you can find it at this link:
http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=75

I hope this helps and please feel free to ask any other questions.

So I know my original post was awhile back, but I just got word today that my guy is being transferred to the CAMP, not the low, yayyyyyy! He has a question though: he wants to know if there is a weight yard at the camp?

Default Weight Yard at Bastrop Camp?

I just got word that my guy is getting transferred to the Bastrop satellite camp, which will put him 20 minutes from me rather than 3 1/2 hours away! Yayyy!

He has a question however. He wants to know if there is a weight yard at the camp? I looked on the BOP website at the Bastrop A&O and it said the camp had a "Fitness area", but the Bastrop low said "Weight area", so I don't really know what the difference is, or if the camp just doesn't have weights.

Any other info about the camp would be helpful also! Thanks in advance.

Default Bastrop

I am so excited for you! I haven't heard from you in a long time.

My son is at the low in Bastrop and when he calls I will ask him if he knows about the "Weights" at camp.

There are others at the camp that blog on here that should be able to help you too.

Default FPC Bastrop

Hi There,

I sent you a PM about the weights. Hope you got it. I thought I would also let everyone else know that FPC Bastrop finally has come into the 21st century and has the new TRULINKS email system. There is a cost and a time limit associated with it, but it sure beats having nothing.

Can't believe it is almost 1 year since I walked out the gates.....

I read an article in the Austin newspaper that there was a fight in two of the units with some injured and that they are on lockdown.

Default Same Story for Bastrop

I just called over to Bastrop too, and got the same message. The officer couldn't say how long it would last...He said they were still investigating. Hope this doesn't take as long as the last one!

There were fights in two units involving 30 inmates, 3 injured.
