My man left Marion in October 08. He said it seemed like every other inmate was a sex offender. It's causing a problem for those who aren't.

Thanks for the info. What problems is it causing? What about violence, etc.? I presume since this is a medium level facility it is primarily violent SO's that are housed there?

I don't know about that. But, and I am trying to be sensitive here because there are many loved ones of SOs on here, anytime there is a SO around inmates who are not SOs it is uncomfortable (to say the least). When there is ALOT of SOs, to the point where the non SOs feel outnumbered they find it an uninhabitable place. Im putting that lighly. Don't know how else to say it. He's VERY happy he's not there anymore.

when i was locked up marion used to be like an admax. i used to hear horror stories about that place, they even had a underground unit for high profile federal inmates. i guess its not like that anymore, they all must have went to florence.

yea, and they shipped all the supermax inmates to CO and before it was converted you could tour the empty facility to see what a 23 hour lockdown looks like. All single man cells, everyone eats in their cell alone. The former home of Mr. Gotti.

But now its like any other medium and the single man cells are coveted. lol, my man LOVED his. In fact Zelda posted a video a while back where they showed you the inside, how it looks now. I found it really comforting to see past the visitation room. might try to find that.

Default Info

Dear Patrick, My son was just sentenced to 3 years. We are hoping he will be placed in a camp. We are trying to find out what camps/low security prsions are better than others in the Chicaloand area. Not very much out there. We have been advised to research and sent sentencing judge a facility so she make send a reconendation for us for placement. Maybe it will help a little. It's all we've got right now. How was it for you for your year? I am truelly happy you are out. Thank-You Rose

Hello Rose!

First let me tell you that federal prison camps are easy. You son will be fine. They are not scary places like prison is depicted on TV. It is just a 'babysitting' type environment. No fences. No guns. Lots of freedom within the camp. I can share more on that later if you want.

As for Marion Camp - I can't compare it to other camps as it was the only one I at. But, I can tell you what others said. There were some guys there that had come from other camps prior to Marion. They ALL said Marion was the easiest, most laid-back camp they had been too. The only downfall was the food - it was very bad, and apparently it is better at other camps.

Personally, I'd ask to be placed at Marion if the location is convenient for you.

If you'd like to learn more about Marion, send me a private message.

Thanks!

Patrick

Hi,

I have been what I would call a very well-educated student of prison, especially Federal and this is what I know:

-- Marion is no longer a Level 6 facility (it was the only one that existed
and I believe there is no longer a designation of Level 6; the USP ADX
in Colorado would be the "new" Marion.

-- Although there is always danger in any Prison, the USP facilities
(again this is from study only; I cant stress this enough and if I
am providing information that any corrections professional and/or
current/former inmate concludes to be incorrect then by all means
go with THAT over mine) seem to be better run. I have heard the
food is somewhat better as well.

-- Keep visiting him if you can as it seems that inmates, when deprived
of these extraordinarily important moments of contact with family or
friends on the outside, seem to really be at high-risk to respond with
rage, severe depression, etc..

Good Luck!

Default marion camp prison

Hello every one I am due to report to the camp at Marion, IL can any one tell me what’s its like? I am 53 and have to do about 30 months, how can I get into the drug therapy program, so I get some time off? I am a massage therapist; will I be able to work at that? I was busted with marijuana in an 18 wheeler in Texas, how I can get a transfer to Victorville medical camp, California? I have a bad spine, the condition is called spondialoses, don't know if the spelling is right.

Hello vjprocess -
First of all - it will be OK. Marion is a very easy place to serve time if you have to do it. Your husband will find his way. The biggest problem - boredom and being away from family. He needs to find things to keep himself busy.
As for visiting, immediate family is usually approved to visit within a week or so. (Actually, anyone named on the pre-sentencing report is usually approved quickly). After that, it can take several weeks for people to get approved.
If you will send me a private message, I will send you a bunch more info about Marion.
Hang in there - it will be OK!
Patrick

Arrow Marion FPC

My guy got a furlough to Marion FPC and we took him there Friday! It was very nice to see him. Now I'm hearing that inmates don't do years at the camps..is this true? He was senteced to 5 years on 14 grams. Could he be coming home soon. He went in Oct of 09. Any information would be nice.

Sorry but don't think he'll be home soon. He has to do minimum 85% of his sentence - part of that will be some halfway house time toward the end of his sentence. They could keep him in Marion or move him to another camp - entirely up to the feds. My husband is supposed to be moving to Marion camp soon - he's at Oxford, WI camp now.

I thought the same thing. A couple of people told me that so that's why I asked. But when could he go to the half way house. I was thinking he would stay there till RDAP them come home. At least 2 at Marion and 1 year in RDAP.

Halfway house will be the last thing he does - usually 3 months.

Hi krogersm, why is he being transfer from Oxford to Marion. I would have thought that he would go to a half way house. In Oxford what facility was he at?

Too early for HWH. He still has over a year left to serve. He's being moved for medical reasons. He's a hypertensive diabetic with sleep apnea. He's been fine but it has to do with proximity to a hospital, ER services available, etc. Why he was moved to Oxford in the first place is the million dollar question!
