Default FCI Loretto

Does anyone know anything about FCI Loretto. My boyfriend is headed there for 3 years and I can't seem to find out any information on it. He is being held in holdover in USP Lewisburg which scares me, but they said he should not be there that long. Please if you have any information on Loretto it would help.

Hi,
My boyfriend was in the same situation your boyfriend is in. He was at USP Lewisburg before he went to Loretto. He has been there since last Thursday. He said Loretto is like a college campus. I was also worried when my boyfriend was at USP Lewisburg but he said he was with people who were about to get released. He could not call me because he was there for less than 30 days but he did write me every week to let me know when he was getting moved to Loretto. While he was at USP Lewisburg I put money on his books so whenever he got to Loretto he could call me. I hope this helps.

Thank you so much that did help. He did write me last week. I was told that I should not put money on his books until he got to Loretto, can I do it before he gets there. I was holding it till he got there and then I was going to Western Union it. Did your boyfriend go to the camp or the actual FCI? I believe my boyfriend is going to FCI, but I will know more once he gets there.

Any info you guys have would be greatly appreciated. I haven't heard from him in almost 3 weeks.

Default FCI Loretto

I am so glad to see others that have loved ones in Loretto. My boyfriend is going there in February. He is currently at Oakdale, LA. How long was the trip for the men in your life? Where were they coming from? I drove to the Loretto FCI just to check it out. Still seemed intimidating to me.

I'm waiting to get approval to visit. I'll let u know what he thinks of it next time I hear from him. Keep in touch. Shelbi

You can order and pay for the subscription. Almost any magazine is fine except porno.

Shelbi, Thanks! Let me know! I hope you get to visit soon! I live about twenty minutes from FCI Loretto. I drove past one day, as absurd as this sounds, it looked okay. Nice setting, nestled in the mountains of PA.

Yeah my fiance is there, and he was also at Lewisburg before sent to Loretto. Its a small facility in the middle of no where. Yes there are a lot of mountains, I'm not sure how far you are but there are hotels in Altoona which is about 20 minutes away from Loretto. PM me if you have any questions, I go up there once a month, I'm 4 1/2 hours away.

My fiance is in Loretto as well. I'm an hour and a half away. Yesterday when I dropped him off there, I almost ran over an Amish horse and buggy.

Yes, it's in the middle of nowhere. Cambria county...near Altoona and Johnstown. The Allegheny Mountains get LOTS of snow in the winter, so if you're planning on visiting, check the weather report. Pennsylvaina roads are poorly maintained, and driving on them when they are covered in snow is not a pleasurable experience.

Fortunately, I'm relatively familiar with the area, and I got an actual street address for looking up directions on MapQuest. (The physical address listed on the BOP website won't give you the exact location of the jail.)

Here it is:

FCI Loretto
772 St. Joseph St.
Loretto, PA 15940

This address was given to me when my fiance reported yesterday. Hopefully, it will make it easier for everyone to find the place...

Hi, Loretto people, question? I'm being told that PA is "routinely" giving 6 months halfway house time, even to those with fairly short sentences, to those to whom they give any. My husband is now in Ohio, and is talking about trying to get transferred to PA or NJ (same circuit) for this reason. Are your loved ones' teams talking about hwh for them, or do they know of others who have gotten 6 months? In Ohio, no one seems to have gotten anywhere near that (10%, at most).

I can't answer this for you yet. I haven't even talked to my fiance since he reported.

As soon as I get an answer, I will let you know.

My baby has been @ Loretto since 2004. He went to Youngstown first for 60 days. He is one of those types that doesn't like visits, it hurts too much and makes the time slow and hard for him. I've made the mountain hike 3 times so far without telling him ahead of time. He was surprised, happy and mad at the same time. He has been telling me for a year that he is getting a transfer. For some reason he wants to go to Petersburg. Loretto seems to be a relaxed atmosphere for a FCI, however I have nothing to compare it to. Not sure why he wants to transfer out. Maybe just a change of scenery. I don't see many post regarding Loretto either.

My brother is self reporting to Loretto this week....can anyone give me any information on the conditions there? Never made a mistake in his life and not even guilty but got 72 months. I just want to know what type of place he will be in.

Hi, sharimel. My friend's been there since August. It's minimum security, not alot of rapists or murderers so there isn't alot of violence. It's very crowded & the food is pretty bad but not the worst, my friend says. He's doing great only 68 days to go . Great guy. It's pretty clean comparitively to other prisons. I've visited 4 or 5 times. They just changed the visiting days to Fri.-Sun. only. 8:30-2:30. It took a while for me to get approved
though. It also was a few weeks before I heard from him when he got there so don't worry if this happens w/ your bro. There are some good guys there my friend says. If there's any other questions I can answer for you send me a personal message. Best of luck & God Bless. Shelbi

Loretto people:

Is it just me, or are the visiting policies at this prison getting worse by the day?

With the F-S-Su visits, the room is so overcrowded that they're kicking people out early. (and that's a warning, especially to PA people...)

The CO's are "randomly" searching people. And is it just me, or are people NOT reading the rules for visiting before they go? Every time I'm there, it seems like at least 10 people hold up the line because of stupid stuff like gum, chap stick, and underwire bras. (that is so, so, SO annoying...)

They're also kicking people out for count way earlier than they should, and not letting them in for way too long.

What's the deal here? ???

Oh, and for "aldanow," I can finally answer your question. (Sorry about writing twice.)

No, Loretto isn't routinely giving 6 months in HWH to its prisoners. Depending on personal circumstance (and it has to be VERY bad), they will let you out a bit early to get on your feet, but it's extremely rare.

I wrote about this earlier...my fiance' really has no place to go when he gets out. His family lives across the country, his mom is sick, and he's not allowed where I live. He asked for more HWH time and was nearly laughed at...not that he won't keep asking, though.

Hi, my Son isi at FCI Loretto, and even though I'm his Mom, I'm not going to take any chances regarding going there without a visiting form. Do you know if I can print one out on the computer?

Default FCI Loretto

Hi, My Son was at Lewisburg also, but got to FCI Loretto last week. I understand it's out in the boonies. I about freaked out when he first got Lewisburg because it's a penitentiary, and here my Son is a low. I called up there right away and they told me that they had a section for just lows. My son was there for two weeks. Loretto is 7 hrs from where I live, so that is going to be a long trip for me. I'm hoping I can find someone to go down with, but we'll see what happens. They don't have computers there, which they had at Cumberland, where he was before, and that really spoiled me. I don't know too much about Loretto, but none of them are any good, in my estimation. Take care, and I wish I could tell you more, but that's all I know.

That is terrible! It must be an awfully small visiting room. The guards are so picky. I'm 7 hrs. away, up in Ct., so when I do go to visit my Son, they best not kick me out early.

FCI Loretto is located in the middle of nowhere pennsylvania between Altoona and Johnstown, I usually go there about once per month and stay in either Altoona (more populated) or Ebensberg (more rural)...In Altoona I stay @ the Marriot at a cost of $116 AAA rate; in Ebensberg @ the Comfort Inn @ a cost of $90 AAA rate. I live in Brooklyn, NY and it takes me about 4and a half to 5 hours to drive there. I usually leave early Saturday morning (abt 2 am in order to arrive and check in early at the hotel so I can arrive for the visit which start from 8:15-2:15. Bring plenty of singles and change for the vending machines, no open toed shoes, no sweats, no jeans with studs on it, an a sports bra , and you will be fine.
