That is worrisome - that's some dry countryside around there. I do know that years ago, they were busy cutting down all the trees around the prisons at Lompoc - to improve "visibility." Beautiful old eucalyptus trees. But with fires, that's a good thing. It's the smoke that would be the problem. I'm sure they will take precautions or figure out evacuations if it got bad - because the employees don't want to be in peril. Z.

Here's the latest - at 8:30 tonight. It says the winds have died down a lot too.

Fire crews gained the upper hand tonight in battles against brush fires in Santa Barbara County and Los Angeles, authorities said.

I lived there for a while the town is pretty cool. you could stay at the embassy or the holiday inn any hotel down h street would be with in minutes from the facility. But Embassy holiday INN and Motel 6 (H street) are the closest to the facility to blocks up make a right @ KFC past a walmart until you get to fields make another right all of 5 minutes away.

YOU DO NOT WANT THE MOTEL 6 on Ocean AVE matter of fact no hotel on ocean, lol

what is the difference between camp and low? are they the same thing or 2 different places. my bro's lawyer and judge are recommending lompoc. they described it as a "prison camp" and "low security facility". as i'm doing research in advance, i'm not quite sure which experiences i should be paying attention to?

The camp and the FCI "Low" at Lompoc are two different places but right next to each other. There is also a medium security USP at Lompoc. Differences have to do with living arrangements, how controlled the inmate's movements are within the facility, and the programs/jobs that are available. And the procedures visitors have to go through are more lax at a camp. Some inmates prefer the FCI's because there are more jobs/programs. Some prefer the camps because of less restrictions. Some think the C.O.'s at camps are more petty because inmates there are short timers and will just "take it." Perhaps someone with more direct experience with the Lompoc facilities can provide you with more detailed information.

That said, the judge can recommend a facility but it's ultimately up to the BOP and sometimes they don't follow the recommendation. And the decision as to whether he goes to an FCI "low" facility or a camp will be determined by the BOP custody classification rules, not by the judge.

Yes, this is a smart thing to do! Especially if you are in HI... The prefix is 805.

Default Questions about Lompoc Facilities

Hi, I'm writing a short story about someone who escapes from Lompoc prison, but I don't know much about it and I live far away. If you could help answering any of these questions to make my story more authentic, I would appreciate it:

1. Is there a guard tower? If not, who watches inmates in the yard?
2. Does an alarm sound if something bad happens like all the fences fall down? Who can push this alarm?
3. Are you stopped and asked for ID if you are driving out of the prison? What about an employee, like a gardener?

My idea is that this would be at "Medium," but any insight is helpful.

Thanks again,

Some Guy

the usp has guard towers. also has cameras all over. i was at the fci but spent a few months in the hole at the usp. at the fci, if the fences fall down an alarm goes off at control and they call yard closure. driving out of the facility, medium or low, it's like that. employees park in the open parking lot. feel free to ask more and i'll try to help.

Hello,
Yes you can and the calls are much less per minute. Make sure that when you get a number with area code 805 and a prefix that is local to the lompoc area. Because the 805 area is large, you need to make sure to get a number with the correct prefix associated with lompoc area and there are several. I had no problem getting one. Good luck - it is worth getting one if you plan on talking...

I visited at the Camp in Lompoc the hours are 8:30-3:00. The visiting area is kinda small but its a good visit. the c.o.s are very nice and don't trip on hugging, kissing, or hand holding. Its a really good visit.

Can anyone help me? How much money can you take in? In what demominations? Is there a change machine in the processing room? What color clothing is not allowed? What time are visits? How long are they? Any other info you can help me with for Lompoc. It's going to be 2 men going to visit, so necklines, tight clothes is not an issue. Thanks in advance.

My brother was just sentenced for 108 months at FCI Lompoc in California, low security.
Can anyone please tell me anything about this facility? Any information at all would be so much appreciated.

Default Questions about Lompoc FCI

It looks like I will be serving 5 years at Lompoc FCI soon. I was wondering if anyone can give me some current information. Are the rooms usually dorm style or are there 2 man cells? How is the food? (Im not picky, but want to try to stay healthy). About the only exercise I do is walking, and I like to walk a lot. Are there opportunties/a track for walking? What kind of work is there? I like to keep busy and Im sure the time goes much faster if I can work. If anyone can help with ANY information, I would appreciate it.

Thank You,

TW

you can find the address at the BOP website for Lompoc Low. I am not sure how long before he can contact you, but you could probably send letters and they should get to him...they haven't changed the address there in a while as far as I know. Good luck!
