Default Has anyone heard of Illinois new bill HB0094?

Has anyone heard of new bill HB0094? It’s currently in its third hearing process. If passed, it would give an opportunity for men serving 50% (incarcerated prior to 1998), to get good time. I’ve been tracking this bill since my husband heard about it last week. There was a hearing on 5/14, but no update online to check the status of that hearing.

Yup, it’s legit. I’ve been tracking the bill. Looks like it’s going to pass. If it does, it’s going to help a lot of inmates to come home sooner than expected and provide immediate release for some.

Bill passed both houses today! There’s going to be a lot of happy inmates.

Here's what the bill will change, including offering good time for some inmates currently serving a sentence for an offense committed prior to June 19, 1998, who will "receive specified sentence credits if the inmate satisfactorily completes an assigned program as determined by the standards of the Department of Corrections".
http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/Bill...nID=108&GA=101

That's as specific as it gets, but even so, it will help some inmates be released sooner.

It does apply to inmates who have been charged with murder.

If they were given a life sentence, it does not apply or if they were told they have to serve 100% of their time. Prior to 1998, inmates were under the 50% rule. Meaning they serve half the time they were given.
