There isn't a designated thread, but hopefully someone here will have some information on that facility. Is there a particular question you needed answered about FCI Terminal Island?

You can search for posts about that prison using the PTO search function, and/or do a google search for "terminal island prison talk".

Yes, I used to always come to this site for latest news and rules and regulations for prison related stuff. Now I am visiting my son's father in Terminal Island, I was hoping to get more info on that place. Visiting, lockdowns, marriage procedures etc.

He is down to a little over a year and we are celebrating the countdown.

We are at Terminal Island, also! So far it's been a good experience (as far as an extended stay as a guest of the government can be called good...)

It's quite a trip for me; I had hoped to visit more often than I've been able to. Heading down again in a few weeks.

To locate the archived posts about a prison that doesn't have enough traffic for its own forum, google it ("terminal island prison talk") and then click on "More results from www.prisontalk.com".

@MsFish We visit on even days.

Do you drive or fly down?

MsJ41, I've done some of both... last visit was flying/renting car, next will be driving down. We are only a few months into this adventure and while I had originally intended on visiting monthly, the reality of that is just not going to happen. Once every two months is more like it. Next visit I'll be taking one of the other kids along, which will be fun. I think.

We have odd days, but have also been on Mondays. One thing I didn't expect to find comforting is seeing the same staff at every visit. It seems to be easier when they recognize me as a regular.

Some bop prisons change the odd/even days every 3 months, along with commissary shopping days and the order for the unit meal rotation. If that is done at Terminal Island, check before you travel.

This is good to know. Visiting was cancelled last weekend because of government shut down.

MxJ41, where did you find the info about visitation being cancelled? I was planning on going this coming weekend (19+ hour drive each way...) and would sort of like to know before heading south. I've checked the facility web site but haven't been able to find any updated closure information.

I went to the prison, the sign was posted on the door. I hope they let the inmates know ahead of time, this time, so they can let their loved ones know.

I am not sure how accurate, but I heard that Monday's visit 1/14 was cancelled as well.

If I hear anything I will definitely share here.

If anyone is following this thread, I just came back from a visit. Apparently, some of you called in to prison this morning to inquire about today's visit and were told they were cancelled.

If there is a moderator monitoring this thread, Monday visits at Terminal Island has been temporarily suspended. They are waiting for government to open back up again.

Thanks for giving updates. Wish I was much closer to visit more often. (It's an 18-hour drive each way, and weirdly enough that is easier than flying...)

I had asked about getting a sticky for TI, but was told it doesn't get enough activity. Which I do understand... it seems to be one of the better places to be associated with.

Heading back down for a visit in 10 days, can't wait.

Things I learned during my visit to TI a couple of weeks ago:

The change machine in the lobby dispenses dollar coins, not quarters. Very nice.

The lockers in the lobby: I thought I was being super efficient by taking my own lock and key. And completely freaked out the front counter staff. Apparently that is a no-no, which they explained to me after everyone calmed down a little bit. They have a process (which I have never seen in print anywhere, or discussed at all...) by which bags have to be passed through the scanner by the staff before being placed in the locker, then they supply the lock; keys are kept with staff in a separate office.
So now I know.

Thanks for letting us know. I have never used a locker.

I hope you had a good visit.

I had planned on a Monday visit this week ~ only to find out that since the shutdown (when Monday visits were dropped) that they haven't been started up again and there are currently no plans to bring Mondays back. Bummed.

Wasted plane tickets as I didn't find out until too late to change/cancel them.

Anyone else know of any other updates?

Hello MsFish, I inquire each time I visit and so far nothing. I heard TI is the only one that does not have Monday visits.

Just heard from the kid that Sunday visits are also getting spotty... so to check by phone before any travel. Nothing has been updated on the web site so that is not to be depended on for accuracy.

I just heard something like that too. My son's father and I had a disagreement and he and I have been taken off visiting list. I will not be visiting anymore.
