Most likely. But because of the prepaid envelope as most places do not allow them.

Default Letter rejected?

Washington State, they say on their policy:
Incoming mail may include pre-paid envelopes if they are received from vendors or public agencies for the purpose of direct return mail.
1. Direct return mail envelopes with altered addresses will be treated as contraband.

Well, you aren't a vendor or public agency so your mail will be rejected as contraband for that reason alone.

And yes, probably also for the different addresses. That's not allowed either. Also, one's full first and last name must be on the envelope, not just initials.

You think I might be blocked to send letters to this inmate because of this?
Thanks

No. He'll get a slip notifying him about it but he may not be told who sent it. Just try again using 1 address and do not enclose anything but the letter.

Is it ok to send the exact same letter? Won't it be considered as a "repeted" message? And so, considered again as contraband?

I read the rule on the contraband a bit differently. How I read it is if the inmate had a return envelope and attempted to alter the address so that he could mail a letter to someone else, that would be contraband.

However, you are not a vendor or a public agency, so the envelope will very likely be rejected. Exactly what that means varies a lot. Some facilities will simply remove the non-allowed objects and forward the rest. Some facilities will reject teh entire letter, returning it to sender. Some facilities will simply dicard the entire letter, or give the inmate the option to send it back (at the inmates expense) or have it discarded.

I believe it very unlikely that there will be any repercussions to the attempt to send the envelope.

Sending the exact same letter again won’t be considered contraband. It was the return envelope that wasn’t allowed. Just resend the letter and make sure your return address, on the envelope you use to mail the letter, is the same one you want them to write you back.

Just curious as to why the return envelope had a different address? Was there a reason?

As I'm not from the US, I hired an online PO Box and asked someone else to send the letter under my name, I had to do the notary etc.. I had a lot of work to send this letter. So, the address the person sent, and the return address (the PO Box) were different. Thanks for all answers

I'm always bringing up Jmail cc with people who write American inmates from abroad; this is a service that allows you to type your letter online, have the Jmail staff print it out in the U.S. and mail it to your prison pen pal via U.S. Postal Services with a domestic stamp, and your pen pal can respond to you by mailing his/her letter to Jmail in Los Angeles. Jmail will then scan the letter and post it for you on their website, so you can open it on your laptop/phone and read it (and print it if you want).

Maybe you want to check them out for quicker and less complicated correspondence
