Just curious because of the mention of white collar offense and low-security throughout the thread-- are you concerned for their safety?

Generally speaking, even on the most volatile of yards/facilities, a person only experiences what they invite in. If they keep their nose in their own business, don't create debts or go out of their way to be visible, they'll be just fine. I understand the anxiety, but I can also reassure you that the odds of someone being a random target of anything is very low.

So just to muddy the waters, if he was designated to FDC, it should say that on the BOP site. But, the site isn't infallible, by any means. I still think he will be moving.

Does the BOP assign people to places that don't fit their custody score? If that's what's happening here, is that a mistake they might fix?

After more than a month in Miami I was told where I was headed, Loretto, Pa., 1200 + miles from home. I knew that I was going somewhere else from the beginning, but not much else. It was a very steep learning curve.

Sorry, it does. It says FDC. But the release status still says unknown. All the same, I hope he'll be moving too. Thanks

It takes awhile for the sentence computation folks in Grand Prairie, TX to figure out his end of sentence date, but once they are done, it will appear on the bop inmate locator. Once they do, you can check their accuracy, the total sentence minus 100% of his available regular good time (47 days for each 12 months of his sentence), and he can file an inmate grievance if it is in error.

Thank you! I was hoping it meant that his final designation wasn't yet known since the computation wasn't fully complete and uploaded. Not sure.

Since he was told that he is designated to the FDC Miami work cadre, I'm pretty sure he has been. If he practices good inmate etiquette, he should have an easy time.

The bop has an arbitrary "public safety factor" and a "management variable", both of which override custody points and allow the bop to assign anyone, anywhere.
