Default Contact with Law Enforcement

Being on Federal Probation requires one to inform the PO if there is any contact with Law enforcement. I am curious to know anyones experience with this. No arrests were made and no laws were broken but everyones ID was taken, I presume to run a check for warrants etc. Questions I have would be how much probation is told about a routine stop or do they just see your name/id has been checked and, other than just making the PO aware of contact with L.E. if probation requires you to submit a full report of what happened. Again no laws were broken and no one was arrested etc. Probably much ado about nothing but, have learned not to take anything for granted.

Just tell your PO. It will likely be a non issue.

Me too, it's far better for your PO to hear about it from you than from the police. If they took your ID, the incident is part of the PD's official records.

When in doubt, report it. My son was involved in a traffic accident (not his fault). The officer took his license to check as well as the other driver's. There were no tickets written even though the other guy should have gotten one. But my son called his probation officer to let her know what happened. That way they know if you report the little stuff then you are doing what you should be. She had no issue, just asked if he was ok.
They do network. My son went to the county where he used to live to get a background check run on himself. They reported it to his PO in the new county. He didn't know you could go to the sheriff's office in his current county to get it. His old PO called him to ask why he was in her county. She was a witch anyway but said she was going to call his new PO. Don't know if she did but he called his new one to give her the heads up. It was a non issue but why risk it?

It is best to report any sort of contact with Police. Especially if names and IDs were taken. It is better if the PO hears from you vs the Police.
