Maybe he moved to a different prison? Most prisons do not forward mail.

It is not at all unheard of for agencies that were using non-street address addressing to be changing over to 9-1-1 compliant addressing. In such an instance, they will deliver for a period of time but then just return the mail...

Double check the address with what is PRESENTLY showing on the agency website.

"Most prisons do not forward mail."

Federal prisons forward 1st class mail as long as it is to another federal prison.

I forget exactly for how long, but it is for several months.

That sounds like a post office glitch to me.

"No receptacle for mail" usually means the postal delivery person tried to deliver it, but the place they tried to deliver it to "didn't have" a mail box or other place where mail could be dropped off.

I had this happen to me with books sent to one of my friends inside. It got returned because there was a new person making deliveries and New Person had no clue how to drop boxes off at the prison, so they just sent it back rather than taking the time to figure it out. I sent the book a second time and had no problems with it going through.

I'd try resending the letter if I were you.
