I don't see why they would be, but if the books are not acceptable, then the facility will return them to you. That's all.

I have had a couple of articles rejected and I just accept that it's not about what I deem acceptable it is what they deem acceptable. For me, I choose to pick my battles and this just doesn't rank as high as other issues.

My man read a book they had on the book cart called "The lies of George Bush" and he's in Federal prison! Haha...you'd think in the Fed they wouldn't have a book that is anti-president no matter what party affiliation, but I guess not! For the record he said it was a boring book. LOL!

Well, then, if that's what happened the last time, chances are that will happen again if the current books are rejected. It's really not a big deal and most of these questions would be better answered by her.

I dont think prisons are the most open minded of places when it comes to book content, just looks bad on them.

Not for anything being too controversial, I've had countless books just "disappear" in the mail room though.....SOOOOOO FRUSTRATING.

Actually any book or publication that the prison system finds a security risk, too graphic many times too violent, they can and in the US anyway do deny.

Is your pen-pal a female?

Why not send her something uplifting rather than depressing?

Take whatever "freedom of expression" you perceive as being withheld out of it and try and think about something that can inspire her.

I can't imagine a book about the holocaust or suffering being an uplifting read. Especially for an inmate who probably has suffering mastered.

Just sayin'

FREEDOM of expression is complete and unfettered Freedom of Expression..

Yes my PP is Female.

Well, I always try to send my pp a wide variety of books to be fair.

I'm not to, at her own request to send her any more book for a couple of months as the lady who checks over the books was being a right awkward "B word" to her ie"why you read this, why why why etc" and she is like that with all inmates my pp says , so my pp just wants to have a break from that lady for a couple of months so to speak.

Anything that has graphic nudity in it will most likely get returned to you. I tried to send my husband the Damn You Autocorrect book and it got returned to me because they deemed it a security risk due to it having a picture of an iPhone on the cover. Go figure.

My husband is a history buff and I have sent all kinds of factually-based books to him and never had a problem. The only thing you can do is try and see what happens. Some people just enjoy reading about history, depressing or not. My husband is one of them.

Oh gosh! I sent the autocorrect book after yarn mentioned it and he's loved it! Could you get it and send some of it in letters?

Not sure, but they threatened to send him to lock up over the cover of the book so I don't want to risk it. I know he would have loved it, but they are really anal over some stuff.

It's good that SOME prisons are open minded when it comes to books anyway!.
