I'm sorry Sheila, it has altered her life, and probably the lives of her family too.

Awwww honey, I'm so sorry. This must be very very heartbreaking for the entire family Keep a little money on the phone if ya can, visit when ya can.....and write often! Mail is so important for inmates.

My grandson is almost done with the third year of his ten year mandatory minimum sentence for a drug offense. He sat in a county jail, never going outside or even being able to look outside through frosted windows for over two years while awaiting sentencing in a Federal Court. That was the hardest part for me, that he wasn't able to get out of that awful building for so long. I don't count the years he has left as I will be 70 when he is released and I can't yet wrap my head around that number. He is doing well and let's me know that which is what helps me. I raised him since he was 5 years old so he is more like a child than a grandchild. Now he is in Pennsylvania and I have only been able to visit him once. We are hoping he will be able to transfer closer to Minnesota in 2015 so we can visit him in person. The prison email system, letters and phone calls all keep us in touch and a subscription for him of our daily Twin Cities newspaper keeps him in touch with the outside world. Life is good but sometimes I have to dig real deep to find something good about this situation. Keep on digging :-)

awww I can only imagine how you must feel my 1st cousin was sentenced with 15 years when he was 21 he will be 36 when he get out although that's not really old but still being in prison 15 years is heartbreaking being there period is. We were really close to and it bothers me that we don't talk are see each other like before but it wont and cant be the same until he comes home and im sure he will be a changed man by then but im sorry you are going through this it will get better you have to accept it first then move forward with positive thoughts good luck

Sending positive thoughts your way. Sorry that happened. And, hope you and your family can stay uplifted and give encouragement to your cousin.
