Default NYTimes:G.O.P. Lobbyist to Plead Guilty in Deal With Prosecutors

Mr. Abramoff, 46, is pleading guilty to fraud, public corruption and tax evasion, setting the stage for prosecutors to begin using him as a cooperating witness against his former business and political colleagues. In exchange, Mr. Abramoff faces a maximum of about 10 years in prison in the Washington case.
After entering his guilty plea in United States District Court in Washington, Mr. Abramoff will also announce a plea agreement in a related Florida case, in which he was indicted last year. In that case, he is pleading guilty to fraud and conspiracy in connection with his purchase of the SunCruz casino boat line, and will face a maximum of about seven years' prison time.

One step at a time, first the lobbyist, then the congressman who profited from them, then maybe, hopefully, the White House.

Sad thing is who will replace them all and will they be any more honest?

Just saw the news, both the BBC and our National News have confirmed that 12 to 15 "Public Officials" and their staff could be brought under scrutiny or charged in this scandal. It could lead all the way up to Tom DeLay who is already under indictment in Texas.

Abramoff plead guilty today and in exchange for his aid in the investigation he is looking at 11 years vice fifty or more.

I don't agree with what he is doing, but I understand it.

I take no joy in this, for we all know what they and their families are in for.

it's about time the justice his cohorts brought to many of us, caught up with them. I pray that they realize the full effect of their war on crime. but white collar almost always receives lessor sentences, plus he's co-operating.

Joe Paulus is sitting 57 months in Fed his assistant DA sent mine up for ten YEARS at nineteen for BUGLARY. poetic justice, but not nearly enough.

all I have to say is it's about time!

I feel for all who are in trouble, but I hope he sings like a canary and the whole house of cards comes a -tumbling down. Most offenders have a far smaller circle of victims. and you KNOW he's not going to end up in some nightmare hellhole, it's gonna be the closest thing to a Club Fed that they've got
