FCI Florence was good but had to keep on top of staff to follow BOP's written policies and
procedures. The warden followed up on valid complaints. The major issue at this unit was between American born and Mexican born Latino's which caused several lockdowns due to stabbings and assaults. Englewood Detention Center was rough if you are going to court in that district. Regarding the information about inmate transfers, my understanding is usually the inmate will not be told where they will be transferred until they get to Oklahoma Transfer Center.

Smile Federal Prison in Texas

My son is being moved to the Federal Prison in Houston from Lompoc, can anyone tell me anything about it? He would be on the low security part. Thanks!

The only federal prison I can find that is actually located in Houston is the federal detention center (FDC).
http://www.bop.gov/locations/institutions/hou/

It is used for the most part as a temporary facility that houses pretrial inmates, and folks who are in route to a different prison. They do have a "work cadre" of inmates who are permanently assigned to that prison too. There isn't much difference in housing inmates, although the cadre does have an assigned housing unit and different rules for the prison workers. All inmates, regardless of their custody scores, are comingled in the other regular housing units.

You can read about inmate rules (A&O Handbook), visitation, commissary, etc. for every bop owned prison by finding it on the bop facility locator.

My brother was in McCreary but is being transferred to Lee - close enough that I can still drive to visit. Thankful he's close but know nothing about the prison or the area.

My little brother is in USP Beaumont. He has been there for 3 weeks now. He says it is pretty rough in there. It's also known as "Bloody Beaumont" . I worry about him constantly.

I just happened to stumble on your posting and wanted to reply. My son is not in this prison but I felt your worry and wanted to just let you know that your words did reach someone (me). I know you worry and I hope all is well. Stay strong and confident.

I hope all is well.

Warmly,
Susan

Thank you Susan. I know each of us that have a loved one in prison always worries about them. My brother and I are very close and this is very hard for the both of us. More so for him. I will pray for our loved ones doing time on the inside.

My best friend was taken to Beaumont (medium) and, within one day, put himself in Protective Custody. Thank God, he was transferred to Marion - which is closer and safer!

My prayers are with you, your brother, and ALL inmates!
