If it is medium security, why are they sending Louie there?? He is minimum security.

What are the visits like? Are they contact?

And here's another question. Louie's parole eligibility date was November 6, 2003. He was re-admitted into the DOC on that day. Will parole still come and give him a date, since his eligibility date already passed?

Hey Heather--
Remember it's prison, it doesn't have to make sense!!! You will find those who are classified as maximum in minimum security prisons [my ex was a case in point--classified maximum and spent almost 1 year at Riverfront which is minimum].
There are contact visits at Northern but I don't know the days or times.
Parole is a tricky question--they have up to 90 days to see him delayed b/c of administrative reasons beyond their control [which seems to be the case here]. He can check w/a parole counselor once he gets to Northern.

I know that at CRAF they have a parole office. Should I try contacting them and asking them? Thanks for the info on Northern State. Anything else I should know?

You might try to call the NJSPB in Trenton--they actually have a new phone system that helps the caller to direct their call to a person who might be able to help out! 609-984-2188

I should be asking about the status of his parole review right? And that number you gave me is wrong. It sounded like it connected me to a fax machine or an internet connection.

Yes, you want to know the status of his parole eligibility and projected date for hearing.
Sorry, I did give you the fax number. Correct # is: 609-292-4257

I spoke the woman and she said this his ISP paperwork had not been filed. And that once it was inputted into the computer, that parole would come and give him a date.

BUT he was classified last week--only because his violation paperwork got there. Is it possible that maybe the parole office isn't aware that his paperwork is there?? It seems funny that classification has knowledge of the paperwork, but not parole. I am so confused!!

Two different computer systems. Classification is part of the DOC and they have a separate computer system from parole [although I think some of the information gets bridged or shared between the two computer systems]. Classification is the determining division that looks at time, determines max dates, parole eligibility dates, etc.... It is their information about any given prisoner that parole relies on in determining parole eligibility. Often there is a lag between Classification and parole.

Should I contact the parole office and let them know that his paperwork is already down there? Maybe they just arent aware of it.

Scratch what I wrote...just found out that Louie was transfered to Northern State on Thursday. Parole will come see him there right? Or should I contact them again and ask about the status of his parole review and let them know that he's in NSP now?

And if I should contact parole again, who do I contact now? When he was in CRAF, I had to contact the parole commitee there. But since he's moved, should I contact Trenton?

Thanks, and sorry I confused you!

I would call Trenton....I believe the automated attendant will give you an option to talk to someone about parole hearings. Northern State is notoriously horrible when it comes to parole--their hearing officers/counselors are pretty worthless. Give them at least a week or so Heather...realistically it will take Trenton time to "find" him [that is b/c Northern's classification department will have to notify the Parole Board of his PED and his location]. And remember too, these systems work slowly on a good day--it's the holidays and so...well, you know what that means!!!! If you can, wait until after the New Year--that way you can put off those headaches you will experience from "banging your head against the wall".

LOL banging my head against the wall is what I do normally trying to deal with some of these DOC workers. I swear, sometimes I just wanna go through the phone! Thanks for the info. So I should call that phone number you gave me before and just let them know that he is there and that his parole eligibility date was November 6th, correct?

Honestly, where would I be without you egs?? LOL! Thanks so much for all your help!

Hey, thanks. I've been visiting him for a while. I live about an hour away from the prison, so I end up going to the afternoon visit. I get there fairly early, so I'm towards the front of the line. I probably see you every weekend. LOL!

My fiance is trying to put a transfer in to go to Northern State instead of South Wood because that in itself will be a long drive down ... but I am sure we won't here about the approval until mths later right? Ya'll know how the DOC can be ...

Did he already go for his classification hearing? And they told him that he was going to South Wood? If so, I think that he would have to automatically go to South Woods and then, after 6 months, put in a transfer slip to be moved. If he hasnt gone and been classified to a certain prison, he can request to go to Northern State.

Louie told them about me being pregnant and his father having heart problems, and asked to be placed close to home. Surprisingly, they agreed.

Healther is right, once classified, the person must go to the prison assigned. Then he must wait at least 6 months before requesting a transfer. No guarentees on the request, either!!!

I actually told him the same things you 2 ladies told me but he said he was gonna try anyways ... they already shipped a few ppl out to South Woods and they did not take him so let's see what happens. I told him if they did send him there I would try to make the trip to see him as much as possible but it will be hard because he is trying to at least get a window visit w/me and he was told those visits happen during the week from like 5 to 8pm? The thing is that I work from 8-5pm and he might be a couple of hours away from me -- especially with Rush Hour traffic.

Tks again Ladies ...
