Do they get too old?
I got the flu/cold or something and am wondering if Im running a temp.
Pulled out the *drawer* to check my temp. (and yes, made sure I got the mouth one, not the butt one) and couldnt *shake it down*
Just curious if they get to old to use?
If I am running a temp its low grade. My face Feels hot to me, but not my hands.
If you're talking about the old mercury ones (yeah, really old) no they don't 'age out'. It may be that some of the mercury separates out and stays up in the glass tube, but see if it still goes up when you put it near different heat sources. Should still be "relatively" accurate.
You'll know you've created God in your own image when He hates all the people you do.

I agree with nimuay. If it is an old mercury one it should be fine, especially if it has just been sitting in your draw. There is no reason I can think of why you wouldn't get a accurate reading from it. I have one at home that still gives us good readings. Of course, if it is a old digital one there might be issues I'm not thinking of. Hope this helps!
PS: Being immature and giggling at the thought of mixing the thermometers up!

Thanks guys. I have not retried to shake the mercury down again, but thought about putting it under the warm water to see if I can get it to go up. It seemed stuck at the normal range even after shaking it several times.
so I will run it under warm water later to see if it moves/stirs things up so I can shake it down. I dont think I have a temp but they always ask if you call your doctor.
