Default Home Confinement Who knows anyone going home due to Coronavirus?

Anyone know anyone going on Home Confinement due to the Caronavirus? Interested in hearing from others. My son's attorney filed a motion 2 days ago for Home Confinement. Waiting for judge to issue response order.

Saw Michael Cohen being sent to Home Confinement he is in a BOP prison and served only 1 of 3 year sentence....

Michael Cohen is in Otisville Camp. All inmates were sent home from the camp. It's hard to generalize from this one outcome.

My husband is at Lewisburg camp and there’s been releases there. EVen a guy with 5 years left (only served 13 month), he was a minimum. SO they’re moving those first.

This is some bullshit. They let financial crimes out yet freebies for prosecutors, victimless crimes, etc. are stuck in the concentration nazi camps? wtf.

I'm interested in seeing where the covid 19 home confinement assignments end up. The maximum allowable time in home confinement is 6 months, and the bop has said that the folks who are going to HC will be on "renewable 30 day furloughs".

That means they could eventually end up back in prison.

Where are you getting the "maximum allowable time"? i think the wardens have broader range. Also, I've had a number of clients do longer than 6 months as a sentencing requirement.

Here's a link to a sentencing.net article by Brandon Sample that explains the bop's April 2019 "Home Confinement New BOP Policy Released | April 2019 Update[/b]". It states that the maximum amount of allowed home confinement time is 10% of the sentence, with a maximum of 6 months HC.
https://sentencing.net/prison-condit...me-confinement

If you google "maximum federal prison home confinement time" there are many more articles available too. I've never seen anything that claims more than 6 months of home confinement.

The First Step Act sets the maximum amount of Half way house/community corrections time as 12 months.

That article refers to the regular discharge process that inmates go through. There have been a number of COVID Barr and BOP memos giving camp inmates who have completed up to 50% of their sentence furloughs. Technically, that could be up to 5 years, although I doubt that's happening much. I think this is an apples and oranges situation, and only relevant to those in camp who are getting out because of the virus.

Your answer is right for the circumstances that it fits. I don't think COVID releases are in those circumstances. It's crazy trying to guess what all this means, especially with all the changes happening so frequently and in all the districts. But that's out world today.

Default 10% rule

I read the 10% maximum time rule was waived due to Carona Virus. Almost 1600 inmates have been to Home Confinement up 55% since prior to virus. I am not sure where I read that 10% was waived, thought it was on the BOP site but I will try to find it.

Default CARES ACT Waived the 10% of federal time remaining rule

CARES ACT:

A release of an inmate to Home Confinement is not a “get of jail” card. Prior to the CARES Act, the BOP had a policy to release inmates to Home Confinement for the last 10% of their prison term or 6 months, whichever was less. Inmates from all security levels, even high security penitentiaries were sent home from either a federal facility or halfway house to complete the term of imprisonment with certain restrictions. It’s important to note in the federal system, halfway houses and home confinement, are simply “transfers” to a community setting ... so this is not something new.

What the CARES ACT did regarding the BOP (in addition to providing some funding to react to COVID-19) was authorize the BOP to place people, yes people, on Home Confinement for longer than the previously established statutory minimum of 10% of end of a prison term or 6-months, whichever is less.

Not to be a Debbie downer here but how do we know that any of this is true? How do we know that the prisoners are not shuffled around to other prisons to make it look like they are being released on home confinment?

Does anyone here withing this forum have a loved one who has been released on home confinement due to corona? to verify that this is really happening or has happened?

I actually know of 2 people who have been released due to coronavirus. My fiance went into quarantine Thursday and will be released next Thursday. They are requiring us to have a land line w/ no caller ID before they release him.

I know several people personally, and get good intelligence on several facilities through former staff.

I'm trying to plan our landline. We have Xfinity (comcast) and I added a phone line today without any call forwarding. But they told me we plug it into modem to activate it. Will this work? Is this an acceptable "landline". This is the only phone line they offer. I'm so confused! My hubby comes home after quarantine (sometime 3rd week of May it looks like).

Can anyone help with the phone line issue!

My husband is at FCI Sheridan. He is hoping to be on the 2nd wave of people being released. Would you mind telling me how long the prison called you after finding out he was coming home? I have Xfinity and just added a home phone as well. I have not got a call from the prison yet.

Welcome to Prison Talk and to the federal forums. I hope you hear from him soon, and that he will be one of the next people to be released by the bop to home confinement.

He called & told me. He found out on April 11th that he was being considered. On April 22nd that's when they told him he would be released to home confinement. The prison never called me. The only time the prison ever called me was back in February to verify some information.

He's in FCI Beaumont and their communication skills aren't the best!

That should be good as long as it's a land line. The modem plugs into the hardwired cable that goes out to the street from the house/apt.

Smile Just got home

I was released on April 23, 2020 after 14 days of quarantine. I was originally scheduled to leave on June 29th on the Elder Release plan, but was sent to home confinement, where I will serve until April 2021.

Hi and welcome to PTO! I think you are our first person to go through the BOP pandemic. Hope you'll hang around and give us the benefit of your experience.

Stay Safe and glad you made it out.

Hi, at what point did they confirm landline requirement. For instance, did they give you time to have one installed. Most homes these days don't own landlines.
