Hi all .... does anyone have a loved one currently at MDC Brooklyn? If so, did you receive any phone calls or emails from them today? I havenít heard from my loved one today and I am worried. Iím wondering if it was an institutional lock down or if something happened with him. I tried calling MDC Brooklyn but no help! Please let me know! God bless

The bop's system-wide lockdown is still in play, which plays havoc with normal communications. I hope you hear from him soon.

Hi,

My loved one is at Miami FDC. He was sentenced yesterday afternoon via Zoom and I have not heard from him yet

Hope you hear from him soon. This lockdown situation is tough.

Thank you, yes I know this lockdown situation is awful. I still havenít heard from him. They were allowed access to phones showers emails for 3 hours a day. Last I heard from him was Wednesday. Itís now Saturday! I hope all is well, this has been very difficult times for us all. I was just wondering if they went into full lockdown again or if maybe he ended up in seg and this is why we havenít heard from him. Not like MDC will help you, theyíre so rude!

Jniccar78 Thank you for letting me know. It sucks that they are locked down but Iím relieved to get some feedback. I last heard from my hubby on Thursday around 1:00pm right before his sentencing hearing via Zoom. I was hoping to hear from him after or the next day but nothing.

I hope we hear from our loved ones soon.

BTW- I tried calling the prison and they wonít even answer the phone.

Hi all - it is Monday; Has anyone heard from their loved ones in MDC Brooklyn? If so, what's the reason for the lack of calls /emails this past week? Thanks.

Fed prisons and detention centers go on lock down a lot, especially during this pandemic. Writing to him is your best option right now.

I will also post here if I hear from my LO. The only thing that might be related is that the 2 lawyers arrested for throwing molotov cocktail into a NYPD cruiser are housed in Brooklyn, so there could be protests nearby.

Still no info from MDC Brooklyn, but an Law360 article revealed that there was an "institutional emergency" last Thursday morning....

"According to the Federal Defenders for the Eastern District of New York, the prison's legal team said there was an "institutional emergency" on Thursday morning that led to cancellations of all MDC inmate court appearances Thursday and sporadic cancellations on Friday.

On Saturday, BOP spokesperson Sue Allison confirmed to Law360 that "there is an ongoing investigation at MDC Brooklyn resulting in modified operations to ensure the safety of staff and inmates. As the investigation is in process, we decline to comment further."

BOP did not respond to a detailed list of questions sent by Law360 on Saturday seeking further information on the nature of both the emergency and the investigation."

After 25 posts, you'll be able to share the links. If you want to send it to me via PM, I'll post it. I tried looking for it, but I am not a subscriber to Law360.

Thanks for the info and please do let us know when you hear from your LO. I will do the same.

I called last night as well, and was told "yes, there is a reason why they can't make phone calls; but that's not public info".

The 2 lawyers were released last night after the appeal court overturned their detention. Also, the Long Island funeral for Jamel Floyd was yesterday, (the man died from a heart attack after being pepper sprayed at MDC Brooklyn). So let's hope we all hear from our LOs soon.

Hi - I just got a call from my LO as well. They were in quarantine, according to the flyer they received, and sort of back to normal today. What did you LO say?
