Hi all my boyfriend was just picked up from LA county by the state this morning. What happens after this? How long will it take for him to show up on the cdcr site? Can you tell me anything you know? I've never been through this. Thankyou.
Sorry to hear. It sounded inevitable. At least you know.
They will almost certainly take him to Wasco. His name will appear in a few days on CDCR inmate locator - https://inmatelocator.cdcr.ca.gov/. When his name does show you will likely get more up to date info on his min / max release dates and his CDCR number.
He will be in reception 6 months plus / minus a few. No predicting, just have to wait. He will see a counselor. Eventually. After that happens they will do a deeper dig into his sentence status, various release dates and post those on the locator. At that point you will have accurate info on release.
He will get one phone call per month. He can write but won't have envelopes, stamps, likely not even paper. Mail to him when you know his CDCR number - that becomes most important part of his address. Include a pad of paper, stamps, envelopes. Tell him to send you a signed visitor form so you can fill it out, mail it and get authorized to visit.
That's about it for now.

They usually call the first couple of days they get there you can always add 5-10 dollars the phone calls r not expensive and tell him to send u a signed visiting form asap so you can send it back it takes like 4 to 6 weeks to get approved..also send him paper envelopes and stamps so he can write you
Here's a link to the CDCR web page that explains to families and friends what new arrivals will experience during their stay at a reception prison. https://www.cdcr.ca.gov/family-resources/
It includes
"What to Expect
When an inmate first arrives at a reception center
After the reception center process an inmate arrives at their designated institution"
It will be the most difficult time to communicate with him.

The most important thing is his cdcr number. They can move them around while in there but having that cdcr number will hopefully get him his mail, no matter where he is.
But as valliz said, call to get his bed/bunk etc info.
They will double check it anyway but........

Thanks guys. He called me this morning so we talked for a short time.i guess he saved a stamped envelope from county and used it to send me a visitr form and a letter. I went online and sent him what I can afford for commissary. It was good to hear his voice. I've missed him.

reception was the worst part. 90 or so days and she got 1 call a month, then 1/2 commissary, and everyone is unclassified. visits were one hour, and one day a week.
Yea he said he is literally the only white guy. I'm praying for him. I want him to stay safe without getting any time added on. I miss him so much....I don't have a car so when I get approved to visit him idk how I'm going to get out there.
