Hi, I hope someone can help. My 17 year old nephew was sentenced to 90 days shock incarceration. Has anyone dealt with this? He was at county jail for 9 days and was transferred to Kirkland R and E yesterday. No one in the family has had any contact with him since he was taken from the courtroom. The jail kept changing visitation days and he was then moved. We are worried sick. How long will he be at R and E before going to shock incarceration? Did his 90 days start when he was sentenced? Any way to contact him at R and E so he'll know his family hasn't abandoned him? Any info is appreciated

Write him! Go to the SCDC website and it will have the address. He will get 2 stamped envelops when he arrives for the month. I can't answer the other questions, I know shock is different than a regular Y or straight sentence. Hopefully the 90 days will fly by.

Does anyone know if Kirkland R&E is currently on lockdown? I haven't heard from my son in a while.

Does he call or write? The mail can be slower there and he may not be able to get to the phone all the time.

That's not unusually especially since he may not have the supplies to write more often than that. He may not be able to communicate more often until he transfers to another facility. Rarely is R&E lockdown for long periods of time but it does happen for a day or two for various reasons.

I was just concerned because he always had a 15 minute call on Tuesday and Thursday and then all of a sudden nothing.

That's understood. I saw in another post that your son's headed to Turbeville. There's a lot of Ys there so he'll probably be in a dorm with men his age. The bad part of that is disciplining himself to stay away from conflicts and do his time.

He has to do a set amount of time before release. In SC as of July 2010, if sentenced as a nonviolent offender, they must complete at least 65% of their sentence. If they're sentenced as a violent offender, they must complete 85% of their sentence.

Hey guys...been almost 2 years since someone posted on this forum...so Im going to see if anyone hops on here to give me some advice

My bf got transfered to Kirkland on the 13th from MT View in NC. He was told by both his PO and his CW that they where only going to keep him for a few days and he would be released and home b4 Christmas. That clearly didnt happen. How long dose the transition process take. I read that it wile his transition is pending he wont be able to go to the canteen and get writing supplies. Is that still true? Or did it change. Whats the minumum amount of time they have to hold them for before being releaced? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I just havent heard from him since he left Mt. View and I just want him home.

You stated in a previous post that he was awaiting a parole/probation date and it passed without a hearing. If he was transferred to R&E he either has another charge or he must complete his sentencing requirements in South Carolina. His sentencing paperwork explains the terms of his sentence.

While at R&E he is limited to phone calls, canteen, and so forth until his classification process is complete. You can write to him but he's only going to receive 2 envelopes to use and can call once per week. He's not allowed visitation at R&E except immediate relatives until the classification process is completed.

I actually dont know for a fact he went to R&E all I know was that he was told before leaving NC that he was only going to be in SC for a few days and would be releaced befor Christmas. Only thing I know is what he told me before going down there and that he was transfered to Kirkland. Oh and also his perole hearing was on the 8th of the month but he wasnt being transfered until the 13th...which made 0 sence to ether one if us. And I would think...if he had additional charges they would have told him a head of time instead of being told he was being released way earlier then intisipated. So I have no idea whats going on.

I am trying to get information regarding R & E process. I am seeing a lot of older posts, but I am not sure if anything has changed as far as how long and what to expect for my son. Anyone know someone in the R & E process right now? Any insight would be appreciated.

The average time at R&E depending on availability of beds, sentencing terms, and individual needs-physical and mental health, educational and vocational, he could be there for 30-90 days.

As far as visitation, phone and canteen use, while at R&E he is limited to the number of phone calls, canteen, and so forth until his classification process is complete. You can write to him but he's only going to receive 2 envelopes to use and can call once per week. He's not allowed visitation at R&E except immediate relatives until the classification process is completed.

Thank you so much for your information!! So, he can get visitors from immediate? Is that after a certain period of time ( 30 days) or immediately do you know?

If he's been there longer than 30 days, immediate family who have been approved for visits can see him. You can go to the site to see how to arrange a visit.
