Default Is anyone else having problems with mail taking forever?

It seems to be taking about a month for my guy to get mail from me... And forever for it to get from him to me. He's at ASPC Douglas.

That's crazy. I know the Phoenix post office is slow... Sam said he got four letters at once... Almost a month after I sent them...

I assumed it was a delay in the prison mail room not the usps maybe both are equally as slow

Honestly this past month has been a nightmare

He sent me 3 Christmas cards, 1 Christmas present (artwork ect), and a written letter to my Jmail account over a period of 3 weeks. It all arrived the same day his first card was dropped in the box December 15th. I received everything January 8th. All 5 pieces of mail arrived at the same time He’s at Lewis if that helps. He’s also waiting on 3 pieces of mail from me, first sent the 27th. We have a theory that the mail room held onto everything/didn’t do mail for a while. Izzy since your guy got lots of mail all at once as well but is at Douglas maybe it’s an Arizona thing lol.

ARIZONA YOU SUCK OVER XMAS. THE END

OK, so it appears to be state wide. I know it took forever in 2016 for mail with my ex... Until he got moved to Kingman and mail went through Vegas... Then things were better. But it looks like it's still painfully slow.

Mine is in Eeyman and yeah, having mail issues here too. He said one of the bunkies had his mom or grandma call central office to complain about him not getting his mail, and suddenly he had three weeks worth of it two days later. I know for certain he's never received one letter I sent, thankfully I type mine all, so I had it saved on the computer and could resend it.

My local post office had a fishing scam. I was blaming the prison. Someone was taking checks out of envelopes and washing them. He would get some stuff and then nothing. It was in the paper here yesterday and they moved/changed the mailboxes.

I doubt a similar issue is going on, but sometimes it is not them.

Kingman, my son always got things pretty quickly. Tucson has been a nightmare. It took over a month for him to get his birthday card. His Christmas card he got in 10 days. I sent two postcards and he got one and not the other this past fall. He never received a book I sent from B&N, but the other 2 went through quickly. The 3rd was returned to B&N, so I did get a refund. My son did not get a notice of contraband or anything about it being returned or denied.

When visiting after Christmas, other visitors were asking the guards about the mail situation. In Tucson it goes through a central processing first and that seems to be where the hangup is.

My son also mentioned that a lot of outgoing items were being denied - art type stuff that was legitimately made by the inmates and being sent out as holiday gifts to their family members.

Hi fam!
Just thought I’d update on our mail situation. November to Jan our letters were taking around 3 weeks. Out of the last 3 I’ve sent him: the oldest took 10 days, second oldest took 7 days, and my most recent only 4 days. Seems like things are speeding up again at Lewis. Fingers crossed I hope I didn’t just jinx it!!

I remember last year mail slowed down a lot during the holidays so that’s probably one reason why it was slow. Hopefully it speeds up!

I sent 2 books that B&N marked as delivered this past Friday. We will see how long they take to get to him. Both were on re-entry into society; one by an author who has written half a dozen books for inmates and former inmates and is highly recommended on all the websites I have read on re-entry. I hope he gets them as they included practical things he will need to do and be aware of.

My sisters each sent my son a Christmas card. I don't know if anyone else in the family did (sister, grandma, dad). He didn't receive any cards except for mine. My sister's cards were not returned to sender, nor did he receive any contraband notices. Since September, at least 1 postcard, 1 book, and 4 cards have not been delivered to him and no contraband notices. The 1 book was returned to Barnes & Nobles.

While it is too soon to expect them to give him the 2 books I sent in mid-January, in light of what he hasn't gotten, he is going to start checking on when will he get the 2 books I sent. Both are by known authors in the prison field and deal with re-entry. Both are used in multiple re-entry programs across the country.

Tucson ASPC central mail room seems to be a problem. During the past 2 months, many visitors have commented on their LO not getting their mail. DOC policy provides that any mail that is deemed non-deliverable to the inmate that the inmate receive a contraband notice listing their options which includes that the inmate can pay for it to be returned. From the visitation conversations, it appears my son is not the only one who hasn't received any notices.
