Exclamation UTAH Marriage Q&A

Please advise my fiancée and me would like to get married, he is an inmate at Utah State Prison, but they keep denying our request. He has no problems with behavior or any write up or any problems, we visit weekly but yet they keep denying the request. He was allowed to get married previously which he did but then divorced and now we wanna get married they are denying us. We are both disheartened. Please can some advise.????

Your only option is to write to the Warden...but if the Warden denies it, it isn't going to happen. Yes, any facility can deny a prison wedding. Sorry sweetie

Despite a supreme court ruling saying that inmates have the right to marry?

Maybe the warden is denying it based on his previous marriage and divorce while inside? Did they happen recently? Maybe if you let some time pass things will change.

There are always alternative reasons a facility can use to legitimately deny a prison wedding...."security risk" comes to mind.

This was my thought, too. Although a different state, the wedding coordinator told me that part of their process is to "weed out" people who marry and divorce repeatedly. They felt there were inmates who would marry just to gain financial or other benefits, and it's a lot of paperwork for them.

If he only has one previous marriage and it's been a good amount of time, they may consider an appeal. But it sounds like you've done that?
