Default Not yet, but will be soon

I will be sentenced soon in Illinois for 10 counts of a class 4 felony, that will carry 1 to 3 years. My lawyer says I will get 2 but I want to figure 3 so I am prepared for everything. I have never served time and the longest I was in jail was when I got bonded out (10 hours.) I wrote a lot of bad checks (very stupid I know.) I am looking for any kind of advice people can give me and if anyone knows anything about Illinois prisons. I am told I will have to be held in 24 hour a day lock down for 2 months before being sent to a different prison. I'm not even sure how to make it so I can call my family or write to them... How to order stuff or anything. Also, I'm not going to act hard..... I'm freaked out really bad. Its to the point I can't sleep or eat or anything. It's really bad. So any advice people can give me will help A LOT! Thanks guys

needing2know1,

First I want to Welcome you to the PTO Family and the Straight Talk Forum!

I am going to give you a couple of links to a couple of forums and specifically one thread that may help answer your questions.

The first forum will be the "Illinois" forum;

the second forum is the "Headed to Prison" Forum;

and finally the thread "Things to Think about When Going to Prison".

The thread noted above was in answer to your post here from another mod. It provides some great things to know when you are facing prison that anyone in you position should look at.

Good Luck to you and I hope you find information here that will help you.

Patti

Smile Fine Resident of Virginia

I was incarcerated with the Department of Corrections in the glorious State of Virginia - I did 2-1/2 years on a 3 years active term - I received 120 years total - so I was officially released on my 39th birthday 02/19/10! What a way to walk out of prison - in style! I was a first time offender - White Collar Crime - Embezzlement - stole close to $1M

Two and a half on a five down in Texas, got out in '98. Been married for eleven years and we have three beautiful children. The life I live now is nothing like what I imagined life to be when I was doing time, but the Grace and Mercy of God blessed me with a new life. I'll help anyone I can.

Default Did time In Atlantic Canada 1972-2002

I was convicted of non-capital murder(x2) in 1972, in Saint John NB, sentenced to life imprisonment at Dorchester Penitentiary,Full Parole eligibility in 10 years.

Being sent to Dorchester (the regional maximum), I soon realized I would prefer to be in Springhill, (the medium) and was transferred there in June 1972. This was accomplished by requesting programs available where I wanted to go, but not where I was.

It was better in medium security, trades, better gym, people more my own age, lots of drugs, etc. I stayed there until 1981, when I was day-paroled to Halifax Carlton Center, to attend university. I was there 18 months, when a perceived deterioration in my attitude was interpreted as an increased risk to re-offend and my Day Parole was terminated, meaning a return to Springhill in 1983.

By the end of 1986 I was almost out of Springhill again, working for the prison driving a truck in and out of the prison. One day I took the truck and fled to Halifax, about 90 minutes drive. Soon captured, I received a small sentence and was transferred to Dorchester Max. Within a year the new Max at Renous opened, and almost the entire population was reclassified and transferred to Prison Atlantic. During this time I began reading the Bible and was turned to become law abiding. After a year I was transferred back to Dorchester for a psychiatric evaluation, and remained there until 1993.

Returned to Springhill, it was a slow journey to minimum security. I was finally transferred to Westmorland in 2000, work there for a year was followed by a year of Work Release in Moncton at a Soup kitchen and at a halfway house.

Day Parole to Greenfield halfway house was followed, after a year, by Full Parole in 2002.

Thirty years of institutions. Been out now 9 years. All is good to me. Report once a month. If I can be helpful to someone, it gives my life more meaning and purpose.

Greg Scott
Fredericton NB

Hi

I was convicted of possession of a firearm as an illegal alien, and 4 counts of misrepresenting a social security number, and was sentenced to 1 year and a day (so that I would be eligible for good times). The thing is, I never committed any of those crimes because I did not know I was an illegal alien in the USA (I was only 8 years old when I came to the US) and during that time, my mother had illegally obtained a social security number on my behalf but I did not know it was fraudulent. I had however signed a plea agreement for those counts because I was unable to prove my innocence and I did not want to spend 2 years in a county jail while the judicial process goes on. However that's another story...

I spent 2 more months in detention after sentencing, then was transferred to FCI Lompoc as per the judge's recommendation. Life there was a lot better than life at any county/detention facility including more privileges and outdoor activities. Work detail consists of sitting around and doing nothing, since they have more people than work available, and I had to volunteer for work to get any work. Somehow the BOP can read my mind, and I was assigned to the carpentry shop. I came to know the Lord while incarcerated there, and was baptized like 2 days after that riot at USP Lompoc in 2003. After finishing my sentence, I was taken by the USICE and deported back to Taiwan.

Once back in Taiwan I worked various jobs in the retail industry, and did my 1 and a half year military service (it was required here), and the criminal history never registered here. I actually had to get a background check at one company and that check always comes back empty.

Enough of my excuses though.

I Welcome you to the PTO Family and am glad to see that you are home. This place is for our family and loved ones while we were gone, and for us to help those we knew inside, and their loved ones.

I served 3 months at Rockville Correctional facility for women. It is hard to sit here and admit it. 3/4/2006 till 5/23/2006. I started a monument co. It went bankrupt and so did I personally. Anyway 7-8 months later I was arrested for 7 counts of theft. Charged with 7 counts class d felony. Seven of the families who had ordered monuments off of me never received their monuments from me. Didn't spend my money wisely. Very bad business decision, to say the least. At least I know what went wrong. Anyway 2 years probation after that. Did my time, and yes I am still ashamed. What i put my family through...Now, I have a son getting ready to go to prison. Different situations - Burglary, battery, violations of probation and house arrest. Guess he never listened to me when I told him my experiences. I have and am going up and down both sides of the track. I have got my life back in order since the day I got out. I was a lucky one. I have always wanted to share but never found the right source so to speak. I am very open to questions and if I can be of any help, just ask.
