Default 85% Time bill proposed

Hopefully this thing doesn't pass without some review of the sentences being handed out because this would increase the time served on a sentence. They are supposed to vote on this Wednesday.

This is HB 1271. Everyone needs to contact their house redpresentative and ask them not to pass this bill. It's important that we speak up.

Default 85%

We already have 85% mandatory time served here in Florida.

I don't understand the uproar about felons having to serve 85% of the minimum sentence ... it's the minimum sentence ... they should have to serve the whole damn thing anyway... *shrug* I just can't understand someone saying that they were going to protest having to pay 85% of their gas bill as opposed to the 50% they have been paying for years. You SHOULD be paying the whole thing, you just got off lucky up until now.

Anyway, the bill didn't pass with the 85% amendment ... so congratulations

Thank God it didnt pass Murdervictim...I dont know what happened in your case but not everyone in prison is a murderer. The sentences in our state are already outrageous so that is why we are so glad this bill didnt pass. I'm sorry for your loss. Maybe you can show some compassion for us too one day.

Continue to watch and see what the great minds and 'men in suits' plan to do next. I am tired of hearing how our loved ones are -from the Indy Eyewitness news channel 13 article- " 2,400 empty prison beds. Those are available to put the punks on the streets..." My son made bad choices but he is not a punk. If Mr. Bosma would read some history he might want to watch his a** because those in suits often end up behind bars. Money-it all boils down to money. Keep watching and informing us-please!

Littlenorth, the last I heard was that this was tabled and will not be heard, but it gets it's ugly little head resurrected occasionally. This is an election year and some of them want to be seen as tough on crime during an election year. From what I understand money is an issue and they also don't want to be seen as the one costing their constituents a lot more money. I will keep looking and see if I find something definate.
