Family Of Inmate Who Died In Custody Gets $750,000

LOS ANGELES -- The county Board of Supervisors has agreed to pay $750,000 to the family of an inmate whose bruised and battered body was found hanging from a noose in his cell, officials said.
Ramon Gavira's death in July 2002 was ruled a suicide by the coroner. But attorneys for the man's family argued that jail personnel with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department were to blame.
Supervisors approved the settlement during a closed-door session last month, but county officials had refused to confirm the amount until the agreement was finalized

Suicide? Did he beat himself up first? Is 750,000 going to bring justice or their son back?
So he not got a death sentence, decided and dealt by the very people assigned to assure professionalism and safety in the Correctional field.
When will the insanity end? Why is it that people deemed criminals are also considered less than people, to be treated less humanely than the dog at the local pound.
The Supreme Court should intervene and find the officers accountable for this mans death and send them to stand the test of time behind bars, where not only the Guards judge them but the Inmates do as well.
When we had the Guards from Starke Florida whom killed an Inmate there, they found themselves out casted by both the Guards and the Inmates. No one would associate with them from either side of the law. They ended up having to spend their entire time in protective custody to ensure their safety.

Oh, so is that what an inmate's life is worth? How sad ... and no amount of money will ever bring him back for his loved ones.

That is so sad. I want to say that at least it was discovered what happend but then what difference will that make it will still happen again to someone else father, spouse or child. Their punishment is going to prison being locked away from society, they shouldn't get more punishement in prison or jail. My heart goes out to the family.
