Default Shawn Keith Wilson

I just found out a week ago that my pen pal was murdered. Shawn was not only my pen pal, but a true friend. I came to PTO because my boyfriend was sentenced to 5.5 years & during that time I picked up a couple of pen pals to help me understand the prison life. I wrote Shawn for just over a year & in that time I would have never of guessed I would grow so close to someone. Shawn was sweet, kind, empathic, funny & so proud. He was also a great artist. I would have never guessed I would grow so close to someone I had never met but it happened. He was always a true friend & never sent me "smut" but was always 100% true to me & him. I am so heartbroken to lose someone so close to me that I had to vent to help me heal from this loss. I will miss you my friend & may you rest in peace. Until we meet again my friend...

Shawn Keith Wilson murdered my friend, Robert Howard Gibson, in July 1998 in El Cajon (suburb of San Diego). Feel free to Google. I've googled Shawn Keith Wilson throughout the years for any info I could find. I did see his pen pal ad a few years back. In it, he wrote that he hates "fake" people and people "who pretend to be something they're not". In that, he was referring to Robert, whom he picked up to perform a sexual act on him...and stabbed him multiple times when he "discovered" that Robert was a man. According to Shawn, he thought Robert was a woman. However, police at the scene said that it was apparant that Robert was male. Regardless, Shawn didn't seem to feel remorse all those years later when I read his pen pal ad. It's as though he still blamed Robert for "pretending to be female". He took my friend from this earth. I can only hope that your pen pal letters pointed him to God.

You don't know what he meant by *fake people*, it's in many ads and not just prison pen pal ads. Do not let what happened to your friend define you. You cannot and do not know if there was remorse or not. Do not let it define your life.

I hardly think anybody implied their life was "defined" by this!

Michaeljns...Regardless of what this man did or how he felt about it later, this person came here to grieve the loss of her friend as she knew him.

Showing up at what is the closest thing this person will have to a memorial service for him is pretty insensitive. And that's not the verbiage I wanted to use.

You obviously are carrying a lot of anger and I'm really truly sorry for your loss, but this page is for remembering those who have passed in prison and you don't have any business coming here and bad-mouthing the deceased. Even if every opinion you hold of him is true. It's not the time or the place.

To the OP, I'm sorry you lost your friend and that you did not get to say goodbye. My love will die in prison one day. I feel you. I'm sad with you. Thank you for being his friend.

Poster stated he/she googled the name throughout the years, so it's obviously a heavy burden and as such defines a person.

Yes, this person is obviously hurting. I hope this person does find some peace and love and comfort to help heal the wounds.

But I would encourage him or her to think back about what it felt like when he or she heard the news that his or her friend was murdered. That's how this OP feels now. And it would have been pretty horrible if someone had shown up at the funeral and talked about what the deceased had done wrong in his life. It's just not the time for that.

I am very sorry for both losses. No one ever gets away with "I only hurt myself". It ripples on until we can't see it anymore but the last affects are there.
I am so very very sorry for everyone's loss. Peace to both of you. It still hurts.

My time has come to update my original post. I still miss shawn and think of him from time to time. To try to answer Michael's post I have no "real" answers for you and I am sorry for your loss. I can only assume by your name that you are a guy so you of all people should understand what it is like for a 21 year old male to be drunk at a party and have a "perceived " women hit on you. I have 5 brothers and any one of them would have done the same. This is what he meat by "fake" people. To answer your question, yes, Shawn had remorse. Imagine the sudden embarrassment he felt along with humiiation he felt when he discovered she was a he? Shawn did have remorse and was trying to better himself however his life was taken. I still and always will miss him.
