Gus, there's no greater freedom than a tent and a fire and silence and stars. Great choice!

Thanks ! Sent the word out to my family via my brother 2 days ago with my cell phone number etc, still no word. I dont really mind as I had one visit from my family in all those years. Anyway I have done my bit and wont contact them again unless I hear something. My brother did reply so I know he got my message, Whether he passes it on to others I dont know, but he is the only contact I have. Head up and moving forward !

stinks the family was not there for you. Im sorry for that. But water off a ducks back.
I love the idea of a *vacation* doing fishing, camping etc. Sounds great! (tho not this time of yr in my area.....been cold as heck!)
Also congrats on the stove and good choice NOT getting a hunting knife.
Hope your able to find a good fishing pole, and gear. Maybe someone is gonna have just what you need at a garage sale or maybe donated it to Good will and you could get it at a good price.

I hope the local PD gets bored of giving you grief. Ive seen a few of those parole stops in our town and its really pathetic. Could hear the guy saying, what did I do?
Police were just *charming* in the response.....You are on Parole and we can stop you anytime for any reason, anywhere.

sheesh. Knock yourself out guys.

Hope that stuff isnt going on.
Looking forward to hearing of your camping adventure(s) in the future!!

Hello all, Sending this from my phone from The Green Swamp in Florida. I will try and paint a picture for you. I am up on a little hill surrounded by trees and a river is about 200m down the hill with rocky ground all the way down to it. There is alligators in the river but they would not slide their way up to me without me knowing !
It is early saturday morning and I plan to stay here for a week ! Being bored and lonely is lovely. I have a 4 person tent I can stand up in, Light, spare batteries, radio, loads of food ( if anyone wants to know what food I have I will print it out ! ) A solar power thing for charging my phone and fishing stuff.
I also have an ereader loaded with 15 books. I cannot believe that my dream is here. My phone will bleep if you leave a message so please leave a reply.

The way you describe enjoying the little things is so touching and so humbling.
Catch loads of fish, enjoy your week and try and have a midnight swim because I can't think of anything nicer that floating in the water and looking at the stars lol

Got through my first night and slept very well. Having eggs and bacon and lots of coffee for breakfast then will spend a few hours gathering firewood for the week. This is bliss !

I can almost taste the coffee! There is nothing like having the first cup of coffee in the morning on a camping trip! The simple pleasures are the best!
I love your thread, it is so real and interesting.
Enjoy your vacation!

Congrats on being "free" after all those years! It is nice to hear you are adjusting well and doing this you've dreamed about! Camping is the best I hope you are having a great time and ventured towards the water (even though I won't lie I'd be afraid of the gators) but here in Ny we have bears so I think the gator's would be better I'm not sure though! There is nothing like sitting by a camp fire listening to the things around you gives you time to think freely! Keep us posted and remain focused you'll be fine!

Still camping, I will be here until Friday. Keeping busy just wandering about looking at things and eating. I brought enough food to feed an army plus the birds here and a friendly skunk ! ! The gators scatter when I go near the water but I think thats only the small ones so I am wary and have not done a lot of fishing. All is good and not a high wall in sight !

A gator can move at lightning speed and so I wouldn't wonder too close to the water.
I'm gald your still out enjoying life.
Friendly skunk,haaa....
Reminds me of when my dog was grooming the cats and she went down the line. The last one wasn't the black kitty but had an odd stripe.Hummm,SKUNK!
