Default Can I pick him up /take him to HWH and other HWH questions?

hello! My boyfriend is leaving Morgantown in Jan. to go to a HWH in Michigan. I have a few questions..

Background info: He was sentenced to 1yr 1day. He went in in April.
He was given a release date of February 24th, and a HWH date of January 20th.

-How long should he expect to be in the HWH house after he gets a job and has an approved home to go to?

-Can he get out of the HWH without a job first? The HWH is not near our home so he will need to get a different job once he is home anyway.. Just wondering?

-My home will be his residence upon return. Will they come over and extensively check my house/speak with me? just wondering if I will need to take time off work and if its a set up date and time?

-Can I pick him up from Morgantown and bring him to HWH? He seems to think I can, so JW if anyone has any more info on this? How long will we have to get to the HWH?

-Any other info on HWH would be appreciated! I know nothing about it aside from the little i've read online.

thank you!!

His case manager in the facility will tell him if you can pick him help. They will calculate the time it takes for you to get from pint A to point B and that is what you have. Not much wiggle room. Yes they will come to your home to check it out. They did not do much when they came here except talk to me. Every HWH is different. He only has a month at the HWH has he considered staying where he is? Sometimes that is better. The HWH will answer your questions usually.

Hey BB, I was approved by my husband's caseworker to pick him up and take him to HWH. She said as long it was people already approved to visit, any of us could have picked him up. We got no information about this until about 4 weeks before his release. They gave us 4 hours to do a drive in the middle of the day (thru NYC), that takes me 5 1/2hrs in the middle of the night when there is no traffic. We just kept calling the HWH and updating them on our ETA.

I doubt that he will get any time off his HWH since it's only a month. My LO has been at HWH about 1 1/2 weeks and has only done his intake interview. I think by the time they fully process your boyfriend into HWH it will be time for him to leave.

At my husband's HWH BOP personnel do not have to have a job to qualify for home confinement but this differs from program to program. If you know the name of the house he is going to look on-line for their handbook. I printed my LOs and mailed it to him so he would be somewhat prepared.

My husband's PO came in August. He didn't do an extensive check. Just made sure I was aware of some of his restrictions (weapons, drugs...). He also needed to verify that I actually did want him home. He also tried his hardest to schedule our meeting so I would not have to take time off from work. He was very considerate.

He can go straight home, with approval from prison officials. I'm in the process of collecting the information for a former mitigation client, so if you remind me next week, I'll put what I've found out about Home placement, in lieu of halfway house online when I sort it out. I've heard that not all BOP staff know about the house placement possibility, so he might have to appeal if he doesn't get it at first. But time is short, so he should ask now.

It's silly to try to get a job in January and then another job in February. It's the worst time to look for jobs, as I'm sure you know.

I know two females released directly to home; one from Alderson, one from Aliceville.

All of the above advice is accurate. In order to be allowed to drive him to the HWH yourself, his case manager has to approve, and write it into his "unescorted furlough" instructions.

My HWH required me to remain living in the HWH for one half of my time, and also to meet their job requirement (which doesn't necessarily mean actually getting hired) before I was considered for home confinement, but it is definitely HWH-specific. The bop community corrections manager, CCM, also had to approve. With only a month of HWH time, he can ask his case manager to send him directly to home confinement, but that is unlikely to happen.

He will submit a "home plan" to his CM, which will be forwarded to your local US Probation Office. They will have to approve it before he is allowed to live there. We had a home visit by a PO (while I was still in prison) who explained how my restrictions might impact everyone else who lived there, and also what items had to be removed from the house. Other than that, it was just obtaining approval from everyone that I was able to move in, and the plan was approved. Some HWHs also do their own inspection before allowing over night passes, but mine just accepted the POs decision.

Could you provide any circumstances re the female who was released from Aliceville directly to home? When was she advised that she was able to do that and by whom? Thank you

Anything is possible if his case manager approves it in advance, and includes it in his unescorted furlough instructions. I didn't want to go from Virginia to Seattle in a bus, so I chose AMTRAK instead. Any costs for amended travel (anything other than what the bop offers him) have to be completely paid by you.

He needs to discuss it with his unit team now.
