"Choose your own fate" | N.O. man opens restaurant after serving 20 years for marijuana charge

NEW ORLEANS "Shermond Esteen Jr.s friends called him crazy when he got into the restaurant game in June of this year as a global pandemic forced so many other businesses to close but the 47-year-old New Orleans native and former inmate is not interested in wasting any more time.

The first day I went to prison, I knew I had to get out, said Esteen, speaking with WWL-TVs Paul Dudley."

Thanks for sharing that. I am about an hour from him so I'll try to check it out. Love to hear positive stories. He is proof that life can knock you down but it doesn't have to knock you out. I sure wish the media would highlight more of these stories nationally. Maybe then reform would advance faster. People seem to focus on the scary stories of re-offenders that every tiny step forward is like climbing a greased mountain.

This is great.

Reminds me of a facebook post I saw about someone who could not find a good job because of a conviction and then they opened up a hotdog cart business and is doing really good for themselves.
