Default For all who are asking here it is

Our first step is the most important one. We need numbers. We need many and many people like ourselves to stick together for our cause. Once that is accomplished we ALL, contact the US Dept of Justice and write them as many times as it takes to get responses. We tell them about the injustices being done in the prison systems and how because you are in jail doesn't always make you necessarily guilty. Like my Fiance; the bastards have her guilty until proven guilty.

We contact (like I already have) organizations like the prison societies, the ACLU and any other civil rights organizations we can think of. i have witten many upon many letters but I am only one soldier in this war of injustice. They will heed to many but laugh at one.

My absolute promise to you is this. I WILL FIGHT the fight. I will go to Washington DC if I must to defend what little liberties we have left especially our loved ones (innocent that isw) who are incarcerated. I promise to you that I WILL diligently work to get this "CAMPAIGN OF JUSTICE" exposed in the media and to open the wounds of injustice. ..... Yours in justice ED

I think what ED is saying is we have strength in numbers. If we could all pull together we could get the attention of the system.
Can you imagine having 2000 letters or phone calls if you were a Gov or politician. That would sure get their attention. The system is broke period inocent or not.
Just my two cents worth.

Injustice is terrible & there certainly should be champions for justice, but we need more. We desperately need a system that helps people who've taken the wrong path to learn to chose a better way, and I believe that the only way to change a person's character is by elevating their minds. We need to give them the skills that will help them to cope with society & that will help them make a decent living; we need to teach them how to love themselves so that they'll know that they deserve a better life; we need to raise their confidence so that they'll have the courage to strive for it. We need to educate society so that there will be opportunity for people when they're released from prison. We need to develop better methods of treating drug addiction & stop locking people up for possession of illegal substances. We will never be truly civilized until we have the will & the way to accomplish these things and our society will only grow more & more dangerous until we decide to chose rehabilitation instead of retribution.

Hi Ed, You are right. I read an article in the Flint Journal the other day and it states that prisoner families are getting raped on their phone bills simply because they do not have a voice. We are not making enough noise. We have no political power so we are not listened to. Look how many of us their are can you imagine for one minute if say on a certain date we call, fax and e-mail say the governor of a state on a certain issue and just totally plug up their office for an entire day. If every major newpaper was blitzed on a subject for days. Then one gets noticed. Then change begins.

For all you justice seekers, I appreciate the support and the emails. Keep them coming. As soon as we get enough we will let our voice be heard. I am getting so many emails I cannot keep up, so you can email me at and it will speed things up. I will compile my list as soon as I get 1000 volunteers, then the campaign begins. We will grow from their and the legislatures, congressmen, justices, and Dept of Justice and even the local level justices will hear our voices loud and clear and we will NOT stop until justice is served. Thank You for believing in what is right and not listening to the lies of our government.

Frankly,

I see no one of the calibre of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, or the other great Founding Fathers, to lead against the current tyranny, as of yet.

However, I am a great believer in Grass Roots efforts, for it was our generation that helped end Viet Nam. So, one more, time, in this life of mine I will join the fray!

Default FIGHT

So far I have had a great response, I would say about 95%. I personally thank everyone for their input, and ideas. the more the better. We are waging a great battle, one against injustice, one which is in opposition to the US Constitution, our Bill of RIghts and us as dignified humans. RIght at this moment I would lay my life down if it meant justice and the re-establishment of American Justice. We must stick together show those bastards that we have the balls to stand against them without fear. Let us continue Phase I on the recruiting process, I want to absolutely FLOOD all the government offices related to justice with our letters. If an animal is enticed so long it will respond, And this is what we will do. YOurs in Justice.......ED

Pardon....

Point and a half for a good fight,... but....
an opinion...

Scattering gripes to deadletter offices around the CJ community isn't terribly effective.
Having no specific channel of effort (and therefore a target for impact of any such gripes) strikes me less than concise or effectual, unless the effect desired is to spend stamps and feel as though there has been a proper channelling of anger.

A gazillion letters which boldly state... it all sucks, or this or that part does,- does not persuade a government wonk to do anything but screen his/her mail more carefully.

Again,... point and a half for the good fight,..--
just wonder what it is you're fighting about, and who you intend to fight over it.

Ed, first of all Welcome to PTO. I've been away for a few days and I have yet to catch up on all the new comers to PTO. I can see that you are most frustrated and have gone through some tough situations with your fiance.

I think I understand that you want to shed some light on the inconsistenceies of the Justice System. I agree that many voices can make a difference, but have you looked to what you want to specifically bring attention to? Such as:
Quote:
We are waging a great battle, one against injustice, one which is in opposition to the US Constitution, our Bill of RIghts and us as dignified humans.
To 'wage a battle' against the above may be to large an untertaking with little effectiveness. Just an idea, because I certainly think you have the drive to accomplish this, but maybe if you focussed on specific issues, and addressed the unfairness of a specific example related to the justice system, one might be able to make more of an effect.

Citing injustice in regards to the US Constitution, Bill of Rights
and the Justice System, in my opinion is to general.

Again, just an idea and opinion!

Pamela

Ed

I hear a great deal of Anger and Bitterness in this post. I agree with you that our Justice is not Justice at this point, but in my many years of life, I have learned that if you go after a change in something with So much Anger and Bitterness, you will fail immediately...

We all know there are problems, but there is a way to make change, this is not the way.... We must study cases and present them to all people, not just the politicians... Politicians will do what their constituants want them to do. My Little Grandmother used to tell me consistantly, "YOU CAN GET MORE FLIES WITH HONEY THAN YOU CAN WITH VINAGAR. She was so very right...

So, this battle you are waging, start at the bottom... Educate People about what is happening.... Let the people know the truth, then it will sway the politicians...

And Ed, Turn to your Higher Power and ask him to help you loose the Anger.. It will destroy you...

My Prayers

Donna

Ed,

As I said in my last note to you, and I also want to follow, Budwoman post. The anger and bitterness will not only sabotage your mission here, it will destroy you as well. I know, I have watched what that same kind of anger and bitterness has done to Frisco.

She has come real close to destroying her life, she has just really been lucky that she has family and friends that are willing to help her pick up the pieces of her life.

Be, careful, with this, yes there is injustice in they system, but don't destroy yourself in the fight. Be there for your fiancee.

Yes, Budwoman is right you will get more with honey than vinagar.

God Bless,

Default Hi

Frisco: The anger and bitterness I have for this system is my fuel for the fire. No it will not hinder my fight. The problem is not enough people gets off their asses to do anything. All they want to do is sit and bitch about things but not do anything about it. Better to be bitter and fight, than to bitch and do nothing..... TTL ED

I do understand the anger and bitterness towards the system. Sometimes that cant be help. As long as a person uses it in a healthy manner, all i would say is, you go.

I THINK THAT YOU HAVE THE WILL AND STRENGTH FOR FIGHTING. WE SHOULD EDUCATE PEOPLE AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON. i HAVE TOLD FRIENDS OF THE THINGS GOING ON IN TEXAS AND THE OTHER PRISONS. THEY WERE SHOCKED. BEYOND SHOCKED.
THEIR IDEAS OF PRISON LIFE WERE DILUSIONAL, TO SAY THE LEAST. WE NEED TO PICK ISSUES AND MAYBE FORM COMMITIES TO WORK ON ONE CHANGE PER COMMITIEE. JUST A THOUGHT. I AM NOT SURE JUST HOW, BUT MAYBE SOMEONE HAS AN IDEA.

Hi,
I'm a project manager type of person -- I admit it. I am NOT angry. (Oops, did I raise my voice? Sorry.) I am willing to plan, organize, track, guide, etc. towards achievement of specific goals. I am interested in 'Correctional Institutions' instead of mere Prisons. Others among you may be leaders -- in a pinch I can try but it is not my strength. Others may be followers -- I can do that too if there is demonstrably light at the end of the tunnel. So, I make this little suggestion and wish I had more to offer -- please make threads in the Activism forum that are each more like a project, and for a project (instead of scattering like billiard balls on the table to write letters on our pet issues) please let's make a team for the project and think and plan together how best to bring about change and then set out to do it concertedly. Maybe I'm crazy, but I believe in ... that way. Of course I might be wrong and maybe venting is a good way too.

Ed, count me in too. I wish we could have a meeting of people from each state, and then a meeting of state leaders. It seems that there are specific issues with a person's case, and then with specific prisons and then there are the general issues needing reform. Actually I disagree with a lot of the readers here I think anger is a good fuel to action!! Think of the people who started groups to find kidnapped children, among others. What I find so frustrating is that i can't find people in my area who are working on prison issues. Minnesota is really pretty darn good on justice issues. My foster kids' brothers are in Ca and Il though. I think people need help figuring out WHAT to do about the more general justice issues. I think if people thought about it, and then asked every one here to call their legislators, or whoever about some specific issues, it would help. personally, I think people's embarassment having a loved one in prison sometimes keeps them silent. I'm a middle class white person and I know my sisters said things like "aren't you worried?" having contact with prisoners.
when I'm happy and content I don't think about getting up in the morning and writing or calling legislators or the justice department. I have to be fired up to take time to do this.
I think there should be some coordination from PRUP, CURE, ACLU, and other groups. Personally I would like to see us start with states taking preventative measures to keep people out of prison, and help them stay out of prison after they are released, rather than build new prisons. And please, why not have committees look at their imprisoned population, and see which ones seem to be no threat at all, have already served most of their sentence, or their sentence was longer than usual for the type of crime, have really shown themselves to be a positive and productive person, and press that they be released!! Think of all the children who have lost parents due to their incarceration! Here in Mn if the parent has a long sentence they terminate rights and put the children up for adoption if there aren't relatives to take them.

Oh, and after keeping it a secret that their brothers were in prison, and the father of another girl, and was so shocked at the realities of prison, I decided to tell them about what prisons are like. I think people need to be educated.
By the way, on the front news yesterday was a story about the terrible treatment of people past their visas held after 9/11. They were taunted, tortured, etc etc. The guards treated them like they do other prisoners. I think the more that the press can write about prison issues, and the more documentaries, that it will pave the way for reform.
