I used to stuff the turkey but since its now thought to be unsafe to do so, I just make it on the side.
What do you all add, use for stuffing/dressing?
I usually like to use a packaged breading. Usually try to find the kind with sourdough bread in it.
And must use the seasoning (Bells)
Add, celery, onions and chicken broth. Maybe some mushrooms or some of the turkey neck meat (I dont like the innards but do cook them down and use some of that broth too for the dressing)
What I do is so easy and simple but always gets rave reviews from those who haven't had it and I cannot have a holiday dinner without it, especially for one of my kids. Really so simple that it's super silly to even say!!! I simply buy a roll of sausage (I usually get country but you can get whatever), fry it up and mix it into the boxed stuffing when it's done.
I told you it's silly simple. I've done dinners with my son's girlfriend's family and everyone kept saying how much they loved the stuffing and asked how it was done...lol

Still prefer to stuff the bird if I am doing a bird...as the family grows smaller, I am more inclined to do Cornish game hens. I deep-fried them one year but only once...I prefer the stuffed bird and you cannot effectively do that when frying them.
Years ago, mom would have used actual bread or bread crumbs, but over the decades, we got lazy and used StoveTop or similar. That being said, I always added a half-pound of sage sausage that had been browned. Both the sausage and the fat was added to the stuffing and then shoved in the bird(s).

I do a bread stuffing. Butter, garlic, onions and celery. Sage sausage, then add cubed bread. I'll buy one season and one plain. Add stock to soften everything.
I remove from pan and add more butter. Fry it up for a few minutes then to the baking dish.
My nanny's recipe.
