My chicken soup has been eaten; I added lemon juice, black pepper and barley. Not the best I ever made, but not as bad as it was last night.

I just about to have a nice hot bowl of mine, it's been so windy here and the temp is dropping fast.

It's 48 here but feels colder, at least to my old bones!!! I can't wait to get all toasty in bed!! I have 1 more load of laundry to do and the dish washer to empty then I can take a nice steaming shower and get into my nice clean bed!!! I love fresh clean sheets and big fluffy warm quilt on a cold night!!! I should sleep great tonight!!! I'm wishing I had a nice bottle of baily's to have a hot coffee with that would make it even better!! LOL Funny the older I get the more I appreciate the simple things I always took for granted.

Because BARBIE is a bitch!!! I do that to myself all the time!! I am going to the liquor store today. As I am making a pork roast and I want red cabbage, which is right next to a great big ABC liquor store!!! I'm going to try oven bagging the pork roast. I normally wouldn't be making a huge dinner but I figured I can make a bunch of stuff from the left overs. My friend is coming to visit next week and I really don't want to have to cook while she's here unless we want to. So I will try to have meals on hand easy stuff we can just pop in micro or oven. The problem is we both love to eat!!! Oh yeah I have to go to the store in town not here to get RED CABBAGE, they only sell plain green here.

**RED CABBAGE, they only sell plain green here.***
LOL. You reminded me of a few years back.
I made corned beef and cabbage for st patricks day.
I of course held out last min for everything.
They had no green cabbage so I got the red.
My son STILL brings that up. He hated it.!! He ate it but he hated it. lol.

I made a sort of Shepards Pie last night. I thought it might be good to add a few more things than I usually add. (Its a cheater recipe that my sons first gf used to make...super simple but hearty and yum)
Its just hamburger browned, put in casserole dish. Add a can of corn (drained)
Cover with mash taters (I really cheated and used instant) and some cheese. (usually cheddar)
In addition I added onions and garlic plus some sliced mushrooms and the last of the asparagus. I didnt have any cheddar (mix up with hub at grocery store) so I used mozzerella. LOL>
I thought it was blah. Really blah.

Hub and son said it was good.
who knows it could be my cold is making things not taste like anything

Well, at least I can get red cabbage at my local store - my local ABC is so small they only carry a few brands of the of the main culprits. For anything exotic I have to leave my ZIP code.

Baileys in coffee sounds so good right now!
(I never drink hardly at all anything hard. Cant remember the last time I even had wine. Beer? Whole nother story there lol)

I have a stash of wine in my closets and one of the cupboards from my customers giving me it for Christmas.
I should use it to cook with, now that I learned the trick of freezing what I dont use that time so I can use it in another recipe. But hub says...no! Thats good stuff.
Sigh. He does not really drink much wine either.

Last time I used red cabbage in cabbage soup it was too sweet; the beets are sweet to begin with and it was just too much although it really was pretty.

I had never really had it fresh except in coleslaw which looks awesome, and the kind in the jar. A friend had a beautiful dish she roasted it with butter a shaved onion white pepper and dill. It was great and I can eat a whole cabbage by my self!!! I've made it a few time's but I only really like roast pork as the meat to go with it.

You two are good! I dislike cabbage, in soup, in slaw, or sauerkraut or anything but stuffed (because there's not enough of it to really influence the flavor then). And, while I'm at it, I loathe rosemary!

I'm not wild about rosemary or tarragon and just recently gave dill another chance and found I now like it in moderation.

I decided to try it again since I love dill pickles (dill pickle & grilled cheese is a favorite sandwich). I wondered why I loved the pickles and yet insisted I didn't like dill; I added some to my cold cucumber & sour cream soup and it was fantastic so I started adding it to borscht. Makes both taste more like what I had while in central Europe or in the homes of people from that region.

I abhor nutmeg.

I never had dill when I lived at home (mom did not use). I put it in a lot of stuff I love it in Chicken soup also.

This afternoon I am making on-top-of-the-stove meat loaf; the oven is filled with donated dog treats for my fosters, I don't feel like finding a safe spot for them and I've been craving meatloaf for days.

I said what else and she just about killed me!!!LOL I wish I could just be happy with a hamburger. I want all kinds of sides with a burger!!!

I do the same thing; can't just have a sandwich - have to have something on the side.

I actually rarely have a meal. Since my days as a chef, I find that I 'graze'. A leaf of lettuce, a piece of toast, an hour later a cup of Thai tea or coffee, a small slice of chicken, a quarter of a bagel, a spoonful of creamed spinach.....

When I need to cook for the old man and his daughter (for some unfathomable reason she is terrified of cooking fish), I'll do full meals, but that's only a couple of times a week.

I like both rosemary and dill. But sparingly.
Love roasted beets.
My mil used to make a really yummy combo of roasted root veggies for any holiday they were doing.
Parsnips, brussels, onions, beets maybe add in some squash. I cant remember what all he put in but dang its good.

I made some Salmon last night, and I did use some dill on it. (shhhhhhh dont tell hubby, he hates dill .....but like safran, he loves dill pickles too lol)
Had white rice on the side along with a salad.
Again, I couldnt taste much. darnit.

I'm getting a cold and all I want is comfort food. I might make a pot of veggi/beef soup, w/barley. Right now it seems like to much trouble. I just ran to grocery store I forgot to buy coffee creamer. I looked at eggs $2.99 a dozen price has tripled in the last year. I would buy some chickens if I still had a house!!! I needed them to bake some stuff for when my friend is here. I figure some oatmeal cookies, brownies, and maybe a danish.

A bit late to reply ...

I grew up with dill in everything so I imagine it is an acquired taste. There is something „dilly” every day or second day. But I was really shocked to see how much my fiancé uses dill and the uses in his home country. There is dill in tea, on pizzas, nacho plates and even yogurt drink. These are fairly tolerable for my high dill tolerance but I cannot do the dill tea.

I just was thinking.......(ok, duck!)
Since I have a good chunk of the salmon leftover......I'd make a soup.
So, I just may make a salmon chowder soup. I have most of the stuff to make it.
And maybe some grilled cheese sammys to go with.

I still have my cold, but at least I got a pretty good nights sleep last night. I freakin went to bed at about 6:30 lol. Woke up at 3am. Made myself try to sleep a bit more and finally gave it up at almost 4.
So soup sounds like a plan for me.
