The inconvenience, and cost of lockdowns to prisoner's families do not matter at all to the bop, and some employees even revel in the disruption that lockdowns cause.

As do some inmates. There’s a handful of inmates that TRY to force lockdowns especially at the holidays.

After all? Why should you get visits when they don’t?

No idea why, but the "All visiting at this facility has been suspended until further notice" banner is posted on the USP Beaumont web page, which usually signifies a lockdown is in progress.

My penpal is in the USP. He last emailed me on the 30th, but I have received several letters since then. On a letter dated 12/2 he let me know they were going on a long lockdown due to some issues, I guess things had been tense there. He went three days with no lights on, writing by window light. Not sure why they wouldn't turn the lights on. They have been shaking down everyones cells too. The last letter I got was from the 6th, still no end to the lockdown yet. Just being let out for showers, hopefully come out for hour or so soon so can get on email or call. Hopefully this ends soon, thought I would share my info with others wondering about anyone they haven't heard from.

My LO sent me a message earlier stating that they were doing visits as well. However, you may want to call, because I called just to confirm. The person who answered the phone stated it depends on what housing unit they were in. So, call just to make sure.

Unhappy

My LO is in low camp and they have been on lockdown since he arrived last Thursday. I do not yet know what bldg he is because he hasn't been able to use any privelages yet. So, unfortunately I do not know if all of low is on lockdown or not.

Does anyone know if I will be able to find out what bldg he is in so I confirm that he can have visitors this weekend? I will be driving down from Austin, so that would be a long way to go for nothing..

Yes, I heard there was a sweep. They have been on lockdown for at least almost a week now. Apparently they are still allowing visits for now, but I'd def call before you make a trip. They are also still receiving mail.

It's absolutely deplorable, and something needs to be done about it. Low is being treated the same way. They're giving them just enough of their basic rights "on paper" to protect themselves (BOP). There is plenty a valid research about locking people up in their rooms and limiting or completely taking away their time to socialize or to go outside and even just simply feel the sunlight, and it is proven that this is not a proper way to successful recidivism.

Beaumont is notorious for exceptionally long lockdowns, most of the time for no reason at all. It's often just simply a rumor that someone has something. And honestly, these people probably wouldn't have these quote on quote contraband items had they been offered their constitutional rights in the first place and been treated humanely. That is, if they ever even had anything "illegal" in the first place - probably not, most are too scared and focused on getting out of hell as quickly as possible.

The fact that the prison doesn't have to record and keep a public record of the statistics on how often and for how long these lockdowns last is something that should be investigated and something that should be changed.

I am considering trying to contact some reporters, or possibly writing an article myself. Before my LO went in, I did a lot of research on how often they have lockdowns and what that means for the constitutional rights of these men and women that are imprisoned here. There is no data. As is the case of my LO, many are trying to appeal their cases, yet they must begin serving their sentences whilst being on constant lockdown and this violates their right to execute their appeals fairly because of the limits it places on access to records, witnesses, evidence, etc.

I will be doing more research about this in the next several days, and I will definitely update anyone who is interested in trying to make sure that something changes. Things got better on paper with the First Step Act, but have they really changed? How can these guys facilitate these programs if they're constantly on lock down and can't hold jobs, can't participate in the programs, and have absolutely no rights to communicate with the outside world - especially their attorneys!? It all smells like a big fat money problem to me...

Before you make thr drive you Must be on the visitor list. He needs to send you a form and it takes a couple of weeks to approve.
